2 Who We Are JDRF is the leading nonprofit funder of type 1 diabetes (T1D) research in the world. Our goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people s lives until we achieve a world without T1D. JDRF collaborates with a wide spectrum of partners and is the only organization with the scientific resources, policy influence, and a working plan to better treat, prevent, and eventually cure T1D. Events like JDRF One Walk have raised over $1.9 billion for T1D research since the organization was founded in About T1D T1D is an autoimmune disease in which a person s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone people need to get energy from food. T1D strikes both children and adults, and its onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. There is currently nothing you can do to prevent it, and there is no cure. About the Walk The Northeast Ohio community is a passionate supporter of JDRF. In 2016, our Akron and Cleveland walks raised over $685,000. We are excited to be moving to new venues for our 2017 JDRF One Walk events, the University of Akron Stile Athletics Field House and Cleveland State University Wolstein Center. Each event will showcase a festival area complete with entertainment, a kids zone, vendor area, and opportunities to interact with other members of the T1D community.
