9 Membership Renewal We are now taking renewals for year 1st May 2018 to 30th April, Cost 12 (See next slide) unless you are a full member of another U3A then it is 8:50. If you have any alteration to your Gift Aid status, please contact Margot Gale at margot.gale@hotmail.co.uk or inform her by post or at the open meeting.

11 No Charges for Refreshments We are pleased to say that, after further advice from HMRC, we will not need to introduce a charge for refreshments as had been anticipated.

12 Saving on Our Use of Plastic In order to reduce our use of plastic, it has been decided to encourage our members to bring their own mugs to the open meetings for hot drinks. Don't worry, paper (recycleable) cups are available for anyone without a mug. Don't forget to bring your mug!

14 Please let your Group Leader Know: 1. If you no longer wish to attend a Group. This will allow new members to join a Group with a waiting list. 2. If you have a reason why you can t get to Group meetings but still wish to be a member. Four nonnotified absences in a row will result in your name being removed from that group and the place open to someone else.

31 Art History and Appreciation Group The Art History and Appreciation Group is now open for new members to sign up to. We meet on the 4th Tuesday of each month in the Guild Room. Members can choose between a 10.30am or a 1.30pm session each month. 35 Bowls Group Bowl sessions are arranged for all Fridays at 10.30am lasting 2 hours - all members welcome. Numbers are gradually increasing and we had 8 persons attending which meant we had 2 lanes open. However, the other two weekly roll-up sessions are Mondays 12.30pm 2.30pm, and Thursdays 2.30pm 4.30pm. U3A bowlers were invited to just turn up to these sessions, and play with their U3A friends.

48 Strollers The Strollers Group is now up and... strolling! The first walk of the new group is planned for the morning of Monday 14th May in the Beeston Marina area. This will be a gentle stroll lasting 1 hour, suitable for the less mobile walker, followed by visit to the cafe. Walking aids welcome. Full details will be confirmed a week before the walk. 55 Having a great idea for a group is just brilliant. Working together is what the U3A is about. Basically, we do things together. It s up to the members to make it happen otherwise it will not happen. Members have made suggestions to start up the following groups but please remember whatever the group you are interested in why not get together and work as a team to make happen! Chris Chater

56 History of Aviation The History of Aviation has extended over more than two thousand years, from the earliest forms of aviation, kites and attempts at tower jumping, to supersonic, and hypersonic flight by powered, heavier-than-air-jets.

57 Ecology/Biodiversity Ecology/Biodiversity - In essence, it s the variety of ways that species interact with each other and their environment.

58 Walking Football Walking Football - is a variant of football that is aimed at keeping people aged over 50 involved with football if, due to a lack of mobility or for other reason, they are not able to play the traditional game. The sport can be played both indoors and outdoors All shapes and sizes, male and female will be welcome. It has been said that it is an excellent cardio-vascular exercise and beats a session in gym every time!

60 Debate and Discussion Debate and Discussion - are two terms that are often used interchangeably since many people do not realize that there is a difference between the two. Debate is a formal contest of argumentation between two individuals/teams. Discussion is an exchange of ideas, information, opinions between a group of people.

61 2nd Writing for Pleasure Group 2nd Writing for Pleasure Group [1st one is full] Think about this subject and realise that writing allows you to be free with your own thoughts, it exercises the intelligent side of the brain and brings about deep satisfaction.

62 2nd Murder Book Group 2nd Murder Book Group [1st one is full] why not explore a murder mystery novel purely for fun, there is an interesting range of books from crime writers all over the world.

64 Astronomy Group We intend that the Astronomy Group will appeal to both beginners who would like to know more about the night sky, and those who wish to have a more detailed knowledge of astronomy. Everyone who has an interest in astronomy will be very welcome. The scope of the group includes: - exploring and understanding the night sky, including recognising constellations, stars, and galaxies throughout the night and the year - an understanding of the planets, their position and motion across the sky - the moon, its features - astronomical events, including eclipses - an understanding of the universe beyond our Milky Way Galaxy. 66 Wine Appreciation Group Three Beeston U3A has two successful Wine Groups, a third is now being established. Wine tasting is a highly individual and subjective activity and one of the functions of the group is to enable members to discuss their personal perception of various wines. Each tasting will follow a theme and will offer the opportunity to taste wines beyond those commonly available in supermarkets. Suggestions for themes will be welcome from group members. The initial meeting of the Wine Appreciation Group Three will take place on Thursday 19th April at the White Lion 24 Middle Street Beeston, Nottingham NG9 1FX.
