Do get in touch if you have any questions. Contact details are below and on the final page of this newsletter - and/or look out for committee members (they wear a yellow sash) at the Thursday General Meeting. Coffee and Chat a new venue. The next meeting is on Thursday 25 th October noon at the Coffee #1Café near Waitrose and opposite Boots. These informal meetings take place every fourth Thursday in the. These are a great way to meet and chat with other members. Just call in and look out for Georgina and our U3A logo on the table. How did you get on with the wordsearch? History Out and About - Group Leader: Angela Ads When: Generally the 3rd Wednesday of the - although also some Sundays. Wednesday sessions will, normally, leave Daventry between 9:30 and 10:00 arriving back after 12 noon. On Sundays we will, normally, leave at 1:30 The group will be visiting surrounding villages and towns (or parts of towns). During each visit we will be guided and informed by a resident, often a member of their local history society. If weather is bad, particularly during winter s, then we could well be sheltering in the church or village hall. Some sessions will require a charge while others do not BUT a donation would be much appreciated. Refreshments may be available on some of the sessions, either during or after, sometimes as part of the visit. There are different suitable numbers - so if interested - book early! 2 2 French Conversation We have a waiting list of five members and I would like to help start a new group in the autumn, but a few more members would ensure a livelier gathering. The meeting is very informal, none of us is fluent in French so we all help each other when we stumble over finding the right word or the correct declension of a verb. We resort to dictionaries and internet translation sites when we get truly stuck. So if you would like to dust off your French and join us, please get in touch. Sherida Mallinson Group Organiser Janice Hargreaves - Groups Co-Ordinator Janice.Hargreaves@sky.com Wine Appreciation Group Latest meeting: Friday 28th September: Fifteen members of the Wine appreciation Group took a trip out to New Lodge Vineyard at Earls Barton. It was a lovely sunny afternoon and as we turned in to New Lodge we meet the truck that was carrying away a tonne of grapes for crushing and turning into lovely bottles of medium dry white Solaris wine. We had travelled over to Earls Barton in a DACT mini bus and having parked up right next to the vines we were invited by own Joyce Boulos- Hanna to take a tour of the 1 acre vineyard and taste a few of the grapes that yet to be harvested. Having enjoyed the grapes and the wonderful view we wandered over to the tasting room where Joyce had set out some lovely Cheese and biscuits and was busily pouring out tasters. We tried 4 wines, a Bacchus, Solaris, Phoenix and Regent. The first two were white; a dry and a medium. The Phoenix made a rose wine and finally the regent a soft red. There was a wine to suit all tastes and extra to try if we were not quite sure which we preferred. There was no pressure to buy any wine but some of took the opportunity to re-stock our cellars before we boarded our bus for the return trip. Lynne Jones - Group Organiser

3 3 Thursday 18 th October 2018 A Short Presentation from Inspector Byrne of Daventry Police Followed by Speaker: Polly Feeley Music and memories of a 50 s childhood Polly s fascinating talk, supported by memorabilia, will be sure to bring back many recollections. Thursday 15th November 2018 Speaker: Jeremy Rivers-Fletcher Jeremy s highly using talk will look at the topic of early post-wwii motor racing, with some original footage of Grah Hill. Daventry U3A has a Car Share scheme to help with transport to and from the ly meetings. If you are interested in offering a lift please come and speak with us at the information table at the Thursday meeting or contact a committee member.
