2 Page 2 President Elect s Message to Members - Greg Grimes We are in the last quarter of our fiscal year and still way behind the ball in terms of membership. Our current numbers through today stand as follows: Total members, 794; New members, 82; Renewed members, 633; Lapsed members, 144 and our award level goal is 875 which means we need 81 combined new or lapsed members to sign back up. I believe that we sometimes think it is far easier to get a brand new member to become excited about the prospect of membership to NAIFA than it is to reach out to a lapsed member who may have left for various reasons. I also think that we are doing a major disservice to our lapsed members by not reaching out to them and re-engaging them in the NAIFA value proposition and the work that NAIFA is doing on their behalf. We are first and foremost an Advocacy organization, standing in the gap between legislative over reach and over regulation and our ability to assist our clients with their planning needs. If we are put out of business, or put out of the middle and lower markets due to the excessive costs of running our practices because of over regulation because we didn t have the manpower or resources to fight the fights we have before us everyone loses. I challenge the local associations in the last two months of this fiscal year to reach out and renew those members who have fallen through the cracks: Bring them back and get them involved. The reason many leave isn t due to the cost of membership or getting out of the Industry it is lack of participation in what we do and perceived lack of value. I also urge everyone to attend the State Convention June th at the Lodge of the Four Seasons in Lake of the Ozarks. This will be a great opportunity to see old friends, make new ones and hear great speakers like Tom Hegna and Joe Templin. I look forward to seeing everyone there! Smith First and foremost I want to encourage everyone to attend the upcoming Annual Leadership and Sales Conference at the Lake of the Ozarks on June 18-19, Not only is it going to be a great meeting with wonderful speakers but the location is top notch at the Lodge of the Four Seasons, now who wouldn t want to spend a few days on that lovely property. The state stopped having annual meetings several years ago and tried to hone our focus in on the training of the local leaders. Those meetings have been a success but we lost touch with our long standing members who sometimes only mingled with other long time association members at our state meetings. We would love to bring some of the old timers out of the woodwork for this meeting. We encourage you to put this on your calendars. We have a link on our website, you have been mailed a hard copy registration and there is a registration form embedded in this newsletter. Let me see those forms coming in here!!! 4 Page 4 VIEW FROM THE PAST: It is critical to success of this association to identify members as potential leaders. In addition to the officers and directors, your association needs individuals willing to serve as chair/ co-chair of committees. In the past locals forwarded resolutions nominating their members but this practice has virtually dried up. We need a continuous flow of fresh ideas from new blood. Your professional association has a mission to advocate for a positive legislative and regulatory environment, enhance business and professional skills, and promote the ethical conduct of our members. Thank you for your willingness to be a part of this effort. Ed F.
