1 Newsletter Website: Telephone number: Our discussion this week is...children at Russell Scott Primary in Tameside have launched a campaign which involves patrolling the street outside their school and giving out fake parking tickets to anyone who stops on yellow lines or with their engine on. The fumes that come out of the back of car exhausts are bad for the lungs, especially for young children. The children are known as Junior PCSOs" (a PCSO is a police community support officer). Things to talk about at home How do you travel to school? What is the parking outside our school like? Friday 15 March 2019 This Weeks Attendance: Fnd 92.4% Y1 98.3% Y2 100% Y3 99.7% Y4 96.5% Y5 97.9% Y6 99.6% Congratulations to Y2 for 100% attendance this week! Only 2 children arrived late to school this week. Please help us to continue to improve attendance. Don t forget the school doors are open at 8.45 now! Many thanks Do you think that having Junior PCSOs would work well at our school? Events next week: Red Nose Day - Friday 15th March STEM workshops at KS2 Thank you to everyone who supported this years Red Nose day. We raised an amazing Here are just a few pics! 2 Congratulations to Cann House Winners of the House Cup this week with the most tokens. Well done. Parking We had a visit from the police on Wednesday as a complaint has been raised regarding parking and we have been asked to remind parents/carers and family members to please be mindful when parking near residential areas, particularly around drive ways and on corners. If they continue to experience problems, the police may have to take enforcement actions. Can I also please remind parents/carers that parking is not permitted in the entrance of the staff carpark as this creates a hazard and could be dangerous. School Parliament - Tuesday 12th March School Parliament met with Mrs Tustain this week, to discuss a number of issues, including how we can make wet play and lunchtimes a little bit more bearable. If your child has any unwanted or unused games that are still in good condition that they no longer play with at home and wish to donate to school, we would love to have them. Ideally games that don t have too many small parts to them. It would be great to have a bank of games such as snakes and ladders, and Ludo, where pupils have to count and use their number skills to count on and count back, so they can continue their learning whilst having fun! Thank you so much for your support. School Parliament Easter Competition - Friday 5th April As always at this time of year we will be holding our decorated Easter Bonnet and Easter Garden competition. This years competition is for Foundation and Key stage 1 pupils to decorate an Easter bonnet, and Key Stage 2 pupils to produce an Easter garden. We had some fantastic entries last year...so get your thinking caps on! To enter, please bring in 50p, with your decorated Easter bonnet or garden, clearly marked with your name and class, to the school hall on Friday 5th April the last day of term, where they will be judged before our Awards assembly. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd best entry for each category with a prize for best overall. Thank you to our school governor and secretary of our PTFA Mr Nigel Taylor, for donating this years prizes.

3 Ed's Citywide Children's Food Panel - Monday 11th March Well done to Holly and George in Year 4 who spent the day as CaterEd directors, attending a meeting at Restaurant PL1 at Plymouth City College. Holly and George spent the day with chef Peter Gorton and other directors deciding on their favourite foods to be part of forthcoming menus for lunchtimes in schools across the city. They had a fabulous time and refuse to tell us what is on the new menus. I guess we ll just have to wait and see! Thank you to Mrs Taylor for giving up her day to accompany them. Well done to both of you. Message from CATER ed Limited It was an amazing day, the engagement and enthusiasm from the children was phenomenal. The children started their day with a talk on local, fresh produce. This was presented by David Barrett who is part owner of Tamar Fruiterers, a company we use to source our fruit and vegetables. Also, supporting the event was Peter Gorton, a renowned Michelin Star Chef. Peter took the lead role introducing the children to a hands on cookery lesson of sautéed vegetables with a tomato based sauce. This was served with fusilli pasta (rice was available for the children with special dietary needs) and topped with cheese. The children worked very hard and appreciated their delicious efforts when their meals were served. Some children even went back for further helping 3 and 4 times! With the consent forms in place we took many photos of the day. You can view them on our CATERed Facebook page, they were also shared on our Twitter account as shown in the link below. We discussed CATERed s new and exciting, flavour bursting meals which are offered on our new menu and invited the children to a special VIP sneak preview. We also discussed upcoming special celebratory events/themed days for our new Summer Menu 2019 which is now ready to go to print.
