1 The Rotary Club of Kwinana Inc. District 9465 Western Australia Chartered: 22 April 1971 Team President Max Bird Secretary Brian McCallum Treasurer Bob Cooper Attendance this week Total Members 31 Apologies Make-up Attended Honorary Member 1 LOA 2 Guests Visitors Partners Facts & Figures Raffle Heads & Tails Bulletin No May 2017 President Max Greetings to all, There is an age-old maxim of A change is as good as a holiday. Quite relevant for us this week; whilst two parties from our club were away working on projects in Timor and Indonesia, a number of us remaining members and partners enjoyed a great night of fellowship on Monday evening at the Steel Tree Restaurant in Baldivis. As usual the Steel Tree top quality cuisine, with the bonus of 50% discount for the second main meal when ordering in pairs. It was especially pleasing to have Barry Winmar s entire family join us for the evening. With families being so busy these days with their multitude of weekly activities, bringing the whole family together for a Monday night gathering was most impressive! Our overseas workers appear to have fully immersed themselves in their respective projects, judging by the photos that have appeared on social media. The local residents all appear to be very welcoming and thankful to the gentlemen. Shall look forward to hearing further details when they have returned. A special congratulations is due to our friend Wayne Milnes from the Rotary Club of Rockingham. It has just been announced by DG Linda McLerie that Wayne will be the District Governor for Rotary District Over the years Wayne has held a number of significant positions, including Club President, District Secretary, and Assistant Governor. No doubt he will do a wonderful job as District Governor. We wish Wayne and Suzanne all the very best for their preparations over the next two years. 8 Guest Speaker What is RYPEN? RYPEN stands for Rotary Youth Programme of Enrichment, which through a weekend live-in seminar for up to 45 participants, aims to create in young adults an awareness of their place in and responsibility towards society. Participants are sponsored and paid for (at a cost of around $295 pp) by the many Rotary Clubs within District 9464 who see RYPEN as a great opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to youth in their community. Who Should Apply? Teenagers between fourteen and seventeen years of age who have not yet experienced leadership positions, but who have the potential to benefit from such exposure. What Does RYPEN Offer? Increased motivation and improved life skills Better self image and more pride in self An understanding of how to set and achieve goals The confidence to overcome failure and take control of one s future An opportunity to challenge personal boundaries. What Does it Involve? RYPEN is an intensive programme which includes developing and implementing problem-solving skills. At the same time participants from different backgrounds are interacting with each other and improving their teamwork skills. Activities may include a low ropes course, a team-building course, workshops, games and more done in an informal atmosphere, where questions and debate are encouraged. Where is it held? Rotary District 9465 holds its RYPEN camp at the Baptist Churches of WA-Serpentine Camping Centre, 22 Transit Road, Jarrahdale WA. When is it held? Rotary District 9465 holds its RYPEN camps during May and September. *Acknowledgment to Rotary Club of Applecross for information
