1 Reaching out multiplies our capacity to Love - Pope Francis ANNUAL REPORT CATHOLIC CHARITIES BUREAU, INC. DIOCESE OF ST. AUGUSTINE
2 The Mission of Catholic Charities is to provide services to anyone in need, regardless of race or religion; to advocate justice, human dignity and quality of life; and to call all people to join in these efforts; thereby reflecting the compassion of God in Christ. Message from the President and Diocesan Director With this letter I am pleased to present to you the Catholic Charities of the Diocese of St. Augustine Annual Report. With our compassionate staff, kindhearted volunteers, dedicated board members and generous donors, Catholic Charities brought the love and healing touch to over 70,000 people this past year in the 17 diocesan counties. The theme of this year s Annual Report is our Holy Father s invitation to work for the culture of encounter, He calls us to: work and ask for the grace to build a culture of encounter, of this fruitful encounter, this encounter that returns to each person their dignity as children of God, the dignity of living. This theme truly captures the essence of the work done every day by Catholic Charities; we work to restore each person s dignity of living and we do so not as an act of charity but to give them what is rightfully theirs to have. While positive changes in the physical, mental and emotional health are measurable, there is an important underlying element that is equally important: dignity. At Catholic Charities we are clear on what it means for those who are most vulnerable. The gift of dignity means that refugees who were invisible can now be seen, the poor are given a chance to thrive, the hand reaching out for help is embraced, the heart seeking healing is lifted, babies find loving homes and more. Catholic Charities gives people hope because they know they can count on Catholic Charities to help make their lives better. It is an amazing accomplishment that Catholic Charities operates our programs with very low administrative costs; 86 cents of every dollar goes directly to serve those in need. I am proud of the dedication and commitment of our staff to improve the lives of others. Catholic Charities is blessed by beautiful people, both those who give and those who are served. Thank you for the many blessings that you have bestowed this past year, especially your love of neighbor. Sincerely in Christ, Most Reverend Felipe J. Estevez, S.T.D. Bishop of St. Augustine Anita A.
