July 2015 Announcing our Board Members Center for Family Services recently held its Annual Board Meeting to elect the Board of Directors. We are pleased to announce the Board of Directors. 2 The Center welcomes new Board Member Jessie Pulitzer, Esq. Jessie Pulitzer joined the Law Firm of Critton, Luttier & Coleman in December Her current practice areas are family law, personal injury and commercial litigation. Prior to joining Critton, Luttier & Coleman, Pulitzer was an associate attorney at Wiederhold, Moses, Kummerlen & Waronicki, P.A. in West Palm Beach. To read more on Jessie, visit our website here. Above: Jessie Pulitzer, Esq. A Time to Give Thanks Dr. Roy Cacciaguida hosted a special reception to recognize Lisa Erdmann for her dedication and service to the Center for Family Services. She served on the Center s Board from 2003 to She served in many capacities at the Center, serving as Board Chair, 1st Vice Chairman, Development Committee Chair, Special Events Chair and Finance Committee. 3 Creating Housing Stability For Families Berta with her two sons receiving help at the Pat Reeves Village. Berta Gabriel is a single mother of two children. Her youngest son was born in April She was on maternity leave for two months caring for her newborn. Unfortunately, her employer does not offer paid maternity leave and this caused her to become delinquent on her rent and utility bills. Berta was offered financial assistance through a grant from The Jim Moran Foundation. With the stress of the risk of homelessness alleviated, Berta was able to better care for her children in stable housing. Berta's story is like so many others who are in similar situations. One hardship can have a spiral affect in the life of a family who is living in the margins. Thanks to The Jim Moran Foundation, The Center is able to provide financial assistance to families like Berta, who are one paycheck away from being homeless. The Jim Moran Foundation was founded in 2000 by automotive pioneer Jim Moran to ensure his philanthropy would endure beyond his lifetime. The Foundation's mission is to improve the quality of life for the youth and families of Florida through the support of innovative programs and opportunities that meet the ever-changing needs of the community.

4 Organization Growth---New Programs offered at the Center for Family Services Above: Barbara L. Hernandez, MS, LMHC, Chief Operating Officer The Quantum Foundation recently awarded the Center with a $245,056 grant for the Integrated Primary Care and Behavioral Health Collaborative Project (IPBC). The grant is consistent with one of Quantum Foundation s focus areas of Improving the health and well-being of the community through delivery of effective and accessible health services. The IPBC grant will extend the Center s reach to engage and provide behavioral health services in Palm Beach County through collaboration and integration with free clinics including Caridad Center in Boynton Beach and MyClinic in Jupiter. Our clinicians will be providing behavioral health services on-site at the clinics complimented by Care Coordination services. Research confirms that Primary Care is the most common entry point for patients with medical illnesses as well as emotional and behavioral distress. According to the National Association of State Mental Health (NASM), 2012, over 34 million Americans have co-morbid mental illness and physical conditions (e.g., diabetes) within a given year. IPBC will give patients access to receive affordable quality behavioral health services at local free clinics access points in Palm Beach County. The program will be overseen by Chief Operating Officer, Barbara L. Hernandez, MS, LMHC.

5 Above: Karen Schneider, LCSW Counseling for Parents and Young Children (CPYC) is an exciting new mental health program at Center for Family Services. CPYC provides mobile mental health counseling services to pregnant mothers and parents/caretakers of children from birth to five years of age. CPYC is funded by the Children s Services Council of Palm Beach County, and the referrals for the CPYC program come primarily from two agencies: Healthy Mothers/Healthy Babies and Home Safe. In addition to providing mental health services to new and expectant mothers throughout Palm Beach County, the Healthy Beginnings system provides access to healthcare, training and support in the area of child development, literacy and family support. The Children s Services Council and the CPYC program aim to work together to promote healthy births, reduce abuse and neglect and promote children s readiness to begin kindergarten. The program will serve 350 clients annually. Please direct any inquiries to the Program Supervisor, Karen Schneider, LCSW.

6 Kids Helping Kids Club The Mendelsohn Family sponsored family night in June. On June 11th, we had a Luau Party at Pat Reeves Village, our emergency housing shelter for families with dependent children. The children all enjoyed making fun crafts and hula-hooping outside. The Kids Helping Kids Club would like to thank the Mendelsohn s for a great event to help kick-off summer! (pictured below) Above: The Mendelsohn Family Above: Members of Masud Court Masud Court and The Law Offices of Richard Tendler sponsored Family night on July 9th. We had a great evening outdoors enjoying a bounce house and snow cone machine. Masud Court provided a homemade dinner for our families at Pat Reeves Village.
