3 Jonathan Braun, MD, PhD Professor and Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine David Geffen School of Medicine Co-Director, Institute for Molecular Medicine University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Los Angeles, California Jonathan Braun, MD, PhD, is a Professor and Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine, and Co-Director of the Institute for Molecular Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). After earning his medical degree and doctorate from Harvard University, Dr. Braun completed residency training at Brigham and Women s Hospital in Boston and obtained a research fellowship from the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Dr. Braun s research currently focuses on the cell biology of the intestine as it relates to the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. His group is also devoted to new strategies in functional immune assessment, including gene targeting and positron-emission tomography for real-time imaging of immune-mediated inflammation. He has published more than 120 primary research studies, and his work has earned him the March of Dimes Basil O Connor Award, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society s Special Fellow and Scholar Awards, and a Fellowship of the American Association for the Advancement of the Sciences. Dr. Braun has recently served as chair of the National Scientific Advisory Committee of the Crohn s and Colitis Foundation, and is currently President of the Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies.
