2 Statemet of Need: O a atioal ad local level, there is strog evidece that pai ad symptom maagemet ad ed of life care for the cacer patiet is misappropriated toward ieffective ad costly therapies. These therapies detract from a patiet's quality of life ad ca add to the overall sufferig that patiets experiece, especially i the hospice ad pre-hospice settig. This coferece will address ad idetify the best practices approach to ed of life care ad pai maagemet. Objectives: All North Shore-LIJ Health System CME activities are desiged to improve patiet care. At the coclusio of this coferece, the participat should be able to: DESCRIBE ad discuss the compoets of pai ad symptom sydromes experieced by cacer patiets so that pai assessmet will be optimized. FORMULATE treatmet paradigms, icludig holistic maagemet i order to maximize pai cotrol ad supportive care for the cacer patiet. IDENTIFY strategies for the early icorporatio ito ocologic practice of palliative, hospice ad supportive care ito your practice to achieve optimum care for patiets. DISCUSS ad establish realistic treatmet ad ed of life goals with our patiets i order to optimize treatmet strategies ad relieve uecessary burdes o patiets, health care providers ad the health care system. Target Audiece: Ocologists, Radiatio Ocologists, Iterists, Surgical Ocologists, Neurologists, Neurosurgeos, Aesthesiologists, Hematologists, Pai Maagemet ad Palliative Care Physicias, Geriatricias, NPs, PAs ad all allied health professioals iterested i ed of life care. Accreditatio: North Shore-LIJ Health System is accredited by the Accreditatio Coucil for Cotiuig Medical Educatio to provide Cotiuig Medical Educatio for Physicias. Credit Desigatio: The North Shore LIJ Health System desigates this educatioal activity for a maximum of 6 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. Physicias should oly claim credit commesurate with the extet of their participatio i the activity. Alexi A. Wright, MD, Medical Gyecologic Ocology Program, Daa-Farber Cacer Istitute Dr. Alexi Wright graduated from Staford Uiversity. She received her medical degree from the Uiversity of Pesylvaia ad completed a residecy i iteral medicie at the Brigham ad Wome s Hospital i Bosto. She subsequetly completed a fellowship i medical ocology at the Daa-Farber Cacer Istitute before joiig the faculty of the Medical Gyecologic Ocology Program.
