Biography of Keynote Speaker: Ralph C. Eagle, Jr., M.D. was born near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 14, 1944 and received his M.D from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1970.

Eagle, Jr., M.D. was born near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 14, 1944 and received his M.D from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in He trained in ophthalmology with Dr. Harold Scheie at the University of Pennsylvania after an initial ophthalmic pathology fellowship with Dr. Myron Yanoff at Penn. Following his residency he spent two years at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) in Washington, DC. with Drs. Lorenz Zimmerman and Ramon L. Font. He became Director of Pathology at the Wills Eye Hospital and Professor of Ophthalmology at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia in 1986 and was appointed the Noel T. and Sara L. Simmonds Professor of Ophthalmic Pathology at the Wills Eye Hospital in He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Ophthalmological Society. He is a member of the Verhoeff-Zimmerman and Eastern Ophthalmic Pathology Societies, is Past-President of the American Association of Ophthalmic Pathologists and serves as Secretary-Treasurer of the American Registry of Pathology. A dedicated educator, he coordinates the Ophthalmic Pathology Section of the Lancaster Course in Ophthalmology and has served as a faculty member of AFIP s course Ophthalmic Pathology for Ophthalmologists for 30 years. He received Golden Apple Awards for excellence in resident education from both Penn s Scheie Eye Institute and the Wills Eye Hospital and the Dean s Citation for Excellence in Medical Education from Thomas Jefferson University. He has written a textbook on Eye Pathology, 29 chapters and more than 330 scientific papers. He has given more than 400 presentations and lectures and has been a visiting professor at eye hospitals and ophthalmology departments on five continents. His hobbies include fossil collecting and photography.
