The IASDA Presents a $25,000 Endowment to Benefit Patients and Dental Students Iowa s dental students are sometimes faced with the challenge of completing required procedures when their patients are unable to afford the treatment. The Class of 2011 used the remainder of their class account to create a fund to assist patients with their treatment while enabling students to complete their required procedures. Working with Dr. Michael Kanellis, Dental Clinic Administration, the fund helped more than 50 patients receive their needed treatment while helping students obtain the experience needed to become a successful dentist. On Monday, August 19, 2013, Taylor Zmoos (D3), president of the Iowa American Student Dental Association (IASDA), announced during the 2013 allcollege conference that the IASDA was presenting the College of Dentistry & Dental Clinics with a check for $25,000 to serve as an endowment to benefit future patients with financial needs and the dental students who treat them. The funds were procured from an IASDA account originating with a book store that the organization once ran. Dr. Luca Gobbato Lectures at the College of Dentistry Dr. Luca Gobbato lectured to the periodontics residents, staff, and faculty on August 9, 2013, on management of the extraction site in the anterior maxillary segments and implant esthetics. His lecture included a variety of cases that illustrated the importance of proper treatment planning and multidisciplinary dentistry to achieve satisfactory and predictable results in different clinical scenarios with high esthetic demands. Dr. Gobbato graduated from the University of Verona in 2007 and then moved to Boston where he trained as a periodontist in Tufts University. He maintains a private practice in Verona, Italy, with exclusive dedication to periodontics and oral implantology; he is also a visiting professor at Harvard University and an adjunct clinical assistant professor at the University of Verona. Dr. Gobbato is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He has authored several publications in the topic of implant esthetics in peer-reviewed journals such as the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants, the International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry, and Clinical Oral Implants Research.
