DSB WEEKLY NO. 855 June 5, 2009 Bonny Olson Wins Award at JPEC & Iowa Centers for Enterprise, Elevator Pitch Competition In May, Bonny Olson, Dows research assistant, won a $1,000 award for her presentation, Nucleic Acid Extraction Method, during the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center (JPEC) and Iowa Centers for Enterprise Elevator Pitch Competition. Twenty-seven teams of faculty, staff, or graduate residents from the colleges of engineering, liberal arts and sciences, pharmacy, dentistry, nursing, and business, as well as the UI Foundation and UI Hospitals and Clinics, participated. Employees presented a two-minute Elevator Pitch, answered five minutes worth of questions from the panel of judges, and wrote a one-page executive summary on their business idea. Dr. John and Katie Lundstrom Are Proud Parents of Triplets Jessica Boehrs Receives Pierre Fauchard Academy Award Jessica Boehrs (D4) received an award certificate from the Pierre Fauchard Academy during the Pierre Fauchard / American College of Dentists / International College of Dentists dinner, which was held on Saturday, May 2, 2009, at the Marriot Hotel in Coralville. The certificate is given to an outstanding and deserving senior who has exhibited leadership and who through his/her accomplishments has demonstrated dedication to the advancement of the dental profession. Michael Davidson (D4) received the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) award, which is given to a promising senior student who demonstrates high academic and clinical achievement in periodontics. Department of Periodontics Holds Annual Award Luncheon on Tuesday, June 2, continued from page 1 On June 30, 1993, the University of Iowa Foundation received a gift from the estate of Mrs. R.A. Greenawalt to establish a scholarship fund for students enrolled in the College of Dentistry, with preference given to individuals who are pursuing a degree in the Department of Periodontics. The 2009 Dr. R.A. Greenawalt Scholarship Fund was awarded to Michael Schiff (D3) and Whitney Dunn (D3). They will participate in a week-long externship in the Periodontics department during the second week of July.
