3 Our Aims The National Yang-Ming University TMTCA program with credits is a 4 weeks program to introduce to international students with traditional medicine and Taiwanese culture and art. This program is to accept students for 4 weeks during summer break. Courses are taught in English and on-site visits after lessons. Students can benefit from this program on: (a) Basic knowledge of traditional medicine, especially acupuncture, acupoints, meridians, and Chinese herb therapy. In addition, students can also learn how the ancient apply ying-yang and five elements to the therapy of traditional medicine. (b) Lectures are taught by well-experienced professors who also diagnose patients in the clinic. Students can benefit a lot through these teachers valuable (c) experiences of diagnosis through bedside training. Overall knowledge of Chinese culture and arts, ex. pottery, literature, history, etc. (d) Interaction with Taiwan students and international students from different countries. Who can attend TCM Summer Program (a) Students from our Partner Universities in the world. The TCM Summer Program tuition fees is 18,000 NTD (600 USD). 3

6 Visa Information Visa Type/ Stay in Taiwan Visa Extension Items Visitor Visa Less than 180 days Twice Resident Visa More than 180 days Change to ARC Exempt Entry/ Landing Visa days Not allowed For students who register to attend the NYMU TCM Summer Program, a visitor visa is recommended. You will need to apply for a Multiple-Entry Visitor Visa if you plan to travel internationally during your stay. It will not be possible to change a Single-Entry Visitor Visa to a Multiple-Entry Visitor Visa when you are in Taiwan. You are permitted to extend your visitor visa from a days period to max days, and you will need to apply for the extension request at local service centers of the National Immigration Agency within 15 days, before your visitor visa expired. Check your expiry date. Health Insurance Before you depart to Taiwan, please remember to arrange overseas accident and medical insurance at your country. The valid date should cover your entire program period. Credit Cards Remember to confirm with bank/credit card company whether you can use it here or not before you leave for Taiwan. 6

Internet cable 5. plug switch (Taiwan 110v) Arrival Information Transportation From Taoyuan International Airport There is no direct train or bus to NYMU, we hereby offer some options for your reference: BY TAXI The airport taxi ranks are located outside the arrival lobby at both Terminal 1 and 2, runs 24 hours a day (night time surcharge begins from 11pm). From the airport to taipei city charge around 1,000-1,200 NTD (highway tolls included). BY Bus+MRT/Taxi The bus station is located on the southeast side at Terminal 1/ northeast side at Terminal 2. When you get off in Taipei City, you could take the MRT to Shipai Station or take a taxi to NYMU. Shuttle Bus Service from MRT Shipai Station to NYMU The shuttle bus station is outside the Shipai Station, Exit 1. Walk across the road to the Optical Service store(with blue brand) 大學眼 鏡. The shuttle bus will stop at the campus main entrance, Laboratory Building and Administrative Building. As the campus buildings are located at different place in the mountain, we will suggest you to take a taxi to your dormitory directly. 7

8 Currency Exchange Change a foreign currency in Taoyuan International Airport is most convenient, though there are several banks nearby Shipai MRT station area, but most of them offer US dollars, Euros, Japanese Yen, Chinese Yuan and HK dollars only. Check the latest exchange rates before heading to the bank. Mobile Phone A pre-paid card is recommended for short-term exchange student, you are able to purchase it at telecom service centre of the Taoyuan International Airport. A local pre paid card is suitable with your own mobile phone. Dormitory Check-In Procedure The accommodation office is located at the Men s Dormitory 1(Office hour 9am-10pm, Mon-Fri, 9am-6pm, Sat-Sun)(see campus map reference). Please report your exact arrival and departure date (better a flight schedule)to OIA. For your convenience, OIA will pay the dormitory fees in advance, you can pay back to OIA when arriving. A local student will be the contact window, he/she will hand in your dormitory access card and keys to you. OIA will forward the and mobile phone no. of the local student later. You may contact him/her when you are in Taoyuan airport and arrange a time to meet each other. For the dormitory fees, a pre-paid keys security loan 150 TWD is needed, you will receive the reimbursement for 150 TWD after finish check-out procedure. 8

9 Dormitory Check-Out Procedure Step 1: OIA will give you the electricity payment sheet 3 days before you check out, please pay the fees at campus payroll section(office hour 8am-5pm, Mon-Fri) at first. Step 2: Hand in the receipt of electricity fees and keys to the accommodation office at the Men s Dormitory 1 at the day you plan to leave NYMU, the accommodation office will return keys reimbursement 150 TWD to you directly. Housing Men s and Women s dormitory offers 4-bed room(with own desk, chair, bed and closet, bedding, pillow, mattress (Men s and Women s Dormitory do not equip with them), you will share air-conditioner with roommates. All dormitories are equipped with public bathrooms and toilets. A laundry room is located at each floor, you can use the laundry machine for paying 2x10 TWD coins/once. * beddings and mattress are on your own expense. Internet / Wireless Internet on Campus You will need to use cable line to access to Internet at your dorm, OIA will give you an account and password when you arrive for accessing to internet. With the same account and password, you can also access to Internet on main buildings on campus. Facilities 1. Library: with your exchange student ID card, you can use the computers and borrow books/cds/dvds from library. Remember to return all items before your fly back to your country. 2. Activity Center: Gym / Badminton,tennis, volleyball court / table tennis court / 9
