1 Club Captains report: Committee meeting: 28/4/15 Obviously the big event this month has been National Championships in Hobart. This was an enormous success for the Club, finishing 6 th overall (females 6 th, males 8 th ) with many medals and records. The highlight was undoubtedly Dorothy Dickey s world record in the 800m free on day 1 of competition, and as Rod has already highlighted in his - Dot and Brian Walsh were stand outs as female and male swimmers of the meet for the Dolphins. Full results are attached. Club records will be updated shortly on the club website. We were particularly pleased to pick up the aggregate relay trophy which we had targeted. We won all of the 280+ relays except the mixed 280+ where we were pipped by Marlins and took the silver. The record breakers and medallists speak for themselves: it was also great to see Ewen Templeton at his first National (first ever!) meet, Chris Vernuccio & Brian Garvey back after major health issues over the past year or more, and also Bron Pask swimming well after being close to pulling out a few weeks prior to the meet due to health concerns. For a bit of fun we had some informal trophies (that we recycled out of the cupboard) which the Captains awarded at the end of the meet to our chosen Male & Female swimmers of the meet (Brian and Dot as above) and an Encouragement award which went to Bron. We also had some fun awards for best swim and an encouragement award for each of the first 3 days of competition. Socially it was a great meet- most of us were staying at accommodation close to the pool so were able to walk to the pool and come and go as we wished which makes it so much easier than having to wait for cars. Some of us attended the welcome reception on the Tuesday night but it was not great and we went out to dinner afterwards; most of us got together for dinners on both the Weds and Thurs night and then ate in on Friday. A few people managed a bit of sightseeing if they had blocks without swims. Life was made easier thanks to Donna Gadsby picking up a Maxi Taxi driver called Richard on the first night who became our unofficial club driver for the rest of the meet and was presented with a Dame Edna purple boa for his troubles on Sunday morning! Saturday night was the Presentation Dinner which was at the Hobart Function Centre on Elizabeth Pier. Tassie always put on a good dinner on the final night with good food and dancing and this was no exception. The theme was 70s and we all entered into the fancy dress spirit. We couldn t quite compete with Marlins who all turned up in Abba costumes but between us we embraced flower power, 70s disco and of course Dame Edna. As we have said many times before, it is easy being Club Captains when we have such a depth of talent and enthusiasm amongst our swimmers.
2 Nationals will be in Victoria for the next two years: MSAC in 2016, and then MSV are looking at options for a country/ regional venue in Victoria for 2017.
