5 A Message From the President Hello everyone, As we March on into spring, I hope all of you have been keeping healthy and happy. Brad Cushman RDH SDCDHS President Bridge the Gaps Speaking of good health, recently about 6 tobacco related bills just passed in the State of California Assembly and are likely to pass in the Senate, including raising the legal buying age to 21 and permitting counties to enact tobacco taxes. These are bills that languished in the legislature last year, but have managed to pass the Assembly early this year! Good for the public and a victory against Big Tobacco!! To read more about these bills, check out article html. Thinking of Tobacco cessation always brings to my mind ways to improve my clinical oral cancer screenings. A patient of mine who works with California medical brought to my attention a new system called OralID, that can provide fast, inexpensive and easy clinical imaging with a small device that can attach to your smartphone, can you say AWESOME!! To find out more, check out their website at oralid.com. I was thrilled at the amazing turn out for our past February CE course that paid special honor to the students that are trudging the road to happy destiny at the three different Dental Hygiene Schools here in San Diego, you all make me and the rest of us very proud (images included in the Students Section)! This coming March 29th will be our next fabulous CE featuring Cindy Purdy RDH CEAS, giving a very needed educational lecture on Healthy Strategies to Avoid Workplace Tragedy, I know I want to avoid tragedy at work (and drama, and stress, and injury). We will once again be doing an opportunity drawing for a new Crown Seating Ergonomic Clinician Saddle Seat Chair, which is valued close to $900, so if you missed the last one, here is your chance to improve your back and your life. Also at the March 29th CE, we will be holding elections for the EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMBERS (President, President-elect, VP of Professional Development, Recording Secretary, and Alternate Trustee/ legislation). I have thoroughly enjoyed representing SDCDHS as President this past year, and am excited to run again as President if I am so lucky as to be voted in. It is a great honor to be of service to all of you in any capacity I am able to fill. Please come out and support the brave and willing hygienists that sacrifice their time and energy to keep SDCDHS running. PAGE 5

6 Executive Board Nominations The following SDCDHS members placed their name in the ring to run for an Executive Board Position for the term. 7 February General Meeting Highlights The Handlery Hotel on February 23rd was the setting for SDCDHS General Dinner CE meeting, Student Night and the CDHA House of Delegates elections. The tables were beautifully decorated with purple and white orchid centerpieces arranged by Krystlelyn Mendoza Paras. Attendees included Registered Dental Hygienists along with dental hygiene students and their faculty from Concorde, San Joaquin, and Southwestern, Colleges. Susan Clark gave a lively and informative presentation on Breaking the NO Barrier with Patients.
