Mark your calendars now for Delta Dental of Virginia s 2011 Continuing Education (CE) Seminars April 29 in Roanoke and August 19 in Virginia Beach. Both seminars will be informative and engaging, and attendees will receive 6.5 AGD CE credits for each seminar. The April seminar topic will be on restorative dentistry and materials science, presented by Dr. Terry Donovan, DDS (pictured above). Dr. Donovan is currently Professor and Section Head of Biomaterials in the Department of Operative Dentistry at the University of North Carolina, School of Dentistry at Chapel Hill. He has spent most of his illustrious career practicing in the Prosthodontics field and teaching. Dr. Donovan has published several articles and lectures worldwide on the topics of operative dentistry and materials science. 2 Help your patients say yes to treatment attend the Putting the Pieces Together workshop on 4/29/11 Dentists, your office administration staff can take advantage of a continuing education opportunity sponsored by MDE at the same location, on the same date and at the same time as the Delta Dental of Virginia CE course on April While you are learning about Restorative Dentistry in the DDVA CE session at the Hotel Roanoke, your office administration staff will have the opportunity to enhance their skills at presenting treatment and finance options for your patients by attending the Putting the Pieces together seminar. This half day workshop is ideal for office administration staff who work with patients to schedule, plan and finance dental treatments. Presented by David Kagey, a national consultant with over 25 years experience in Practice Management, this workshop will teach office staff how to consult with your patients, helping them understand your payment policies and fees, and using insurance information and financing options to help them say yes to treatment. The workshop will also touch on improving insurance reimbursements and your knowledge of coding and documentation when it comes to submitting claims. Putting the Pieces Together will be held at the Hotel Roanoke on April 29th, in conjunction with the Delta Dental CE course. The session will conclude with an included luncheon. Lucky #7 - IVR options changed Our Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system is one of the easiest ways to contact us when you have a question or need information regarding Delta Dental claims or procedures. We ve made some changes recently with added options for new products that may be causing some confusion. In the past, the number 2 option reached our provider team directly. The 2 option is now for Individual product information. Providers should now use the 7 option. Please remember to push 7 when you want to talk to us about any provider inquiries. 3 Delta Dental in the community At Delta Dental, we understand that a healthy smile helps to create a healthier body. That s why we believe in promoting awareness of and access to oral health care to encourage preventive and good oral health habits throughout the state. Here are a few of the events we sponsored and supported in Delta Dental Miles for Smiles 5K The first annual Miles for Smiles 5k was run on October 2, Organized by the students at the VCU School of Dentistry, and sponsored by Delta Dental, the goal of the race was to raise funds for Mission of Mercy (MOM) projects in Virginia. The inaugural race was particularly important since MOM lost most of the dental supplies and equipment used to render free dental care stored in a trailer that caught fire when struck by lightning on July, 29th The race was a great success in helping support MOM to fulfill its mission to provide dental care to the underserved populations in Virginia despite the severe set backs caused from the fire. Mission of Mercy (MOM) helps thousands in Wise On a hot steamy July weekend, thousands lined up to receive free health and dental services from volunteer medical and dental providers. While medical treatments and diagnoses were a major part of the services offered, the majority of those attending the event wanted to see a dentist. Countless teeth were pulled, treated, cleaned and repaired by the selfless volunteers who gave up their weekend to help those most underserved in Wise and the surrounding communities. MOM events, created by the Virginia Dental Health Foundation and supported by Delta Dental of Virginia, provide free dental care for individuals in underserved areas of the state who are in need and have nowhere else to turn. Services provided by MOM are unparalleled and we look forward to continuing our support of these events across Virginia. The Community Free Clinic of Newport News The grand opening in November of the newly converted Community Free Clinic of Newport News was met with great fanfare. Located in the southeast community of Newport News, the clinic will provide medical and dental services to the over 22,000 people in the area who have no medical or dental insurance and cannot afford the care they need. As a reflection of that need in the community, people were calling and showing up at the clinic even before it opened its doors for business in November.
