3 Message from the Organising Chairman & Secretary-General LADS / AADV It is my pleasure and honor to invite you to the organised by the League of Asean Dermatological Societies (LADS) hosted by the Dermatological Society of Vietnam. This special event will also mark the inaugural meeting of the Asian Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (AADV) which has been spearheaded by the members of LADS. We are indeed proud to bring this important and prestigious scientific meeting to welcome our Vietnamese colleagues into this important regional fraternity. As in other major regions of the world, the specialty of dermatology has come of age in Asia. The LADS was made significant strides over the last few years and will continue to evolve and grow with the formation of the AADV. This presents a unique opportunity for the dermatological profession in Asia to come together in fraternity and fellowship to review the latest developments and breakthroughs in two important areas of dermatology, namely psoriasis and eczema. It will provide our dermatologists with a platform to exchange experiences and ideas in clinical practice and research. This conference will not only provide a platform for knowledge exchange among our colleagues in Asia but will also pave the way for enhanced regional and international cooperation in the field of dermatology. 4 Message from the Chairman of the Dermatological Society of Vietnam Dear colleagues, On behalf of the Dermatological Society of Vietnam, I am very pleased to welcome you to the in Hanoi, Vietnam, 6 th to 7 th November The is the unique platform for all dermatologists around Asean to make friends with one another, share and learn new knowledge from latest studies or simply from other colleagues' valuable experience in Dermatological practice. Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, is the host for the this year. Hanoi is recognised as a centre of scientific research, technological innovations and development, particularly in the field of medicine and medical sciences. The Organising Committee has prepared various scientific activities for the participants. In this new millennium, healthcare, in general, is gaining more and more public's interest. Skin care, particularly, has become one of the most burning fields with rising public demand. In addition, dermatology and dermatological science are witnessing rapid development with a lot of researches and technologies emerging every day. Therefore, it is vital for us, as dermatologists, to update and keep up with new knowledge and discoveries in our field. The is a special event, serving as a platform where dermatologists from various regions in Asean have an opportunity to gather, exchange ideas and learn advanced knowledge in the field of dermatology. With that aim, this year, Vietnam is honored to be the host of this. We, the Organising Committee, have planned a variety of scientific programs, including reports of newest research and studies. Besides, some social activities are also well-prepared to welcome all of you to Hanoi and to introduce to you Vietnam s unique culture and customs. 6 Faculty CONGRESS VISITING PROFESSORS Malcolm W Greaves MD PhD FRCP Emeritus Professor of Dermatology Professor Greaves has spent nearly all his professional life teaching dermatology and trying to help patients suffering from skin diseases, He is moved by how skin diseases can be debilitating, depressing and prejudicial to quality of life of its sufferers. His expertise encompasses all aspects of clinical dermatology except cosmetic / aesthetic dermatology. His areas of special expertise include dermatological therapeutics, dermatological allergy, urticaria, angioedema, pruritus (itching), skin infections including tropical dermatology, photosensitivity and skin complications of internal disease. He graduated in medicine from the University of London and subsequently obtained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians. He later graduated PhD by thesis and MD from London University (Faculty of Medicine). He was elected to Fellowship of the Royal College in He trained in dermatology at the St Johns Institute of Dermatology, London and at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He was appointed Clinical Professor, Chairman and subsequently Dean of the Institute of Dermatology in 1975, a post which he held until retirement in Following retirement from the St Johns Institute, London he involved himself in specialist dermatological training, research and clinical practice in SE Asia. He worked as Professor of Dermatology, Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur for 2 years, and was then appointed Senior Consultant Specialist in Dermatology, Singapore General Hospital, a post which he held for 2 years. In April 2005 he took up the position of Senior Consultant in Dermatology and Academic Advisor to the National Skin Centre Singapore, and Clinical Professor, Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore.. He now practises dermatology part time in Poole Hospital NHS Trust and intends to continue his interest and involvement in dermatological developments in the Far East Professor Greaves has published extensively and authored in numerous authorative dermatology textbooks and chapters. To date he has more than 600 articles in peer-reviewed journals and his pivotal work on urticaria and molecular basis of the inflammatory process is regularly cited by researchers. He has been internationally acknowledged and has received numerous awards both at home and abroad including: Dohi Medal (Japanese Dermatological Association) 1981 Parkes - Weber Medal (Royal College of Physicians) 1994 Sir Archibald Gray Gold Medal (British Association of Dermatologists) 1996 Von Zumbusch Medal (Univ of Munich) 1998 Certificate of appreciation for Scientific Contributions to Dermatology Worldwide (International League of Dermatological Societies) 2002 Award for Outstanding achievement in Dermatological Research (European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology) 2005 Voted Best Teacher, National Skin Centre Singapore 5

7 Faculty CONGRESS VISITING PROFESSORS Jonathan Barker Professor of Clinical Dermatology Jonathan Barker qualified in Medicine at Guy's Hospital in Having completed his internal medicine training (MRCP 1985) he undertook Dermatology training in the Department of Dermatology, Guy's Hospital, from 1985 to 1991, including a Senior Research Fellowship in the Department of Dermatology and Pathology at the University of Michigan, USA ( ). In 1991 he was appointed Senior Lecturer in Dermatology and Honorary Consultant Dermatologist at St John's Institute of Dermatology. In 2000 he was promoted to Professor of Clinical Dermatology. Since 2002 Professor Barker has been Academic Head of St John's Institute of Dermatology. Professor Barker sits on the Editorial Board of several scientific journals. He is heavily involved in postgraduate education, for example through his chairmanship of the Annual Course for UK Dermatologists. He also plays a prominent role in international dermatology. He is immediate past President of the European Dermatology Forum, having been Secretary-General He is a Director of the International Psoriasis Council (2006- present). Frank O Nestle Professor of Dermatology Professor Nestle holds the Mary Dunhill Chair of Cutaneous Medicine and Immunotherapy at St John's Institute of Dermatology, King's College London School of Medicine and is a Honorary Consultant Dermatologist at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital. He is Director of the Clinical Research Facility at Guy's and St Thomas Hospital, a member of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) Executive and Lead of the NIHR BRC Cutaneous Medicine/Dermatology Theme as well as a Skin Cancer Lead of the King's College London Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre. He is also Director of the newly established Federation of Clinical Immunology Society (FOCIS) Centre of Excellence Kings College London (website in construction). He has given over 250 scientific lectures at national and international conferences. He was a Visiting Professor at the Mayo Clinic in 2000 and at Yale Medical School in He is a member of 9 national and international societies. He has published over 100 scientific articles in publications such as Nature, Nature Medicine, Lancet, Journal of Clinical Investigation and Journal of Experimental Medicine. He serves as an editorial board member of the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, International Journal of Dermatology, Dermatology and Expert Review of Dermatology. He is a member of the Faculty 1000 Medicine. He has received 14 prizes including the Alfred Marchionini Research Award at the 20 th World Congress of Dermatology and the American Skin Association Achievement Award at the Tricontinental Meeting of the Societies of Investigative Dermatology. He has (co) organized various scientific conferences including the World Congress of Skin Cancer in 2001, the First Expert Meeting and Workshop on Clinical Trials in Dendritic Cells in 2000, and the International Skin Cancer Conference in
