VISION STATEMENT The vision of the Villaggio Pickleball Task Force is to facilitate the establishment of Pickleball in our community for the enjoyment, health and social engagement of residents by offering organized recreational and competitive play, and to develop designated outdoor Pickleball-only courts. MISSION STATEMENT As Task Force Volunteers, our mission is to provide an opportunity to help our community make the most of the benefits that the sport of Pickleball has to offer. We will do this by: Engaging Villaggio residents to solicit their thoughts and ideas as it relates to the creation and location of Pickleball courts. Visiting other Pickleball communities to determine the estimated costs of construction. Fostering the growth of one of the fastest growing recreational sports in North America that focuses on fun and fitness. Providing a controlled environment for the game. Pickleball courts are only 800 square feet, less that one-third the size of a regulation tennis court. Educating residents about Pickleball as a court sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong. Thank you for your ongoing support as we continue to engage in our due diligence. VILLAGGIO PICKLEBALL TASK FORCE Robert Bruce, Felice Solomon and Kip Rosner, Co-Chairs Marvin Cohen, Board of Directors Liaison Don Iken Rich Kuperman Alan Lazar Lowell Sand Vinny Scire
Senior Living Article March 2018 Pickleball Top five reasons pickleball is not just a fad and why you should know how to play: 1) It doesn t discriminate against your ability: Whether you re sixteen or you re sixty, the sport can be played at any age. The size of the court is actually 3 to 4 times smaller than a tennis court, so while you can still get a good exercise out of the sport, there isn t as much area to cover and this also means longer rallies. While many racquet sports rely mainly on speed and power, this sport focuses more on strategy and finesse when it comes to hitting the ball, which gives an eighty-year-old the ability to compete in the same league with someone fifty-years younger than them. So, you and you son or grand-daughter or greatgrand kids could play this sport together and not feel a gap in your abilities. 2) It s great exercise: You don t have to be amazing shape to play, but you can still get a great workout. When playing, you are exercising all the major muscle groups, doing cardio, improving dexterity, mobility, agility and balance. It can be a form of interval training because it involves smaller bursts of faster movement. In turn, you can burn up to 450 calories an hour and it s a lot more fun than the treadmill. 3) It s good for your health: Besides the benefits of getting a good work out, the sport also lowers blood pressure, boosts the immune system, lowers stress and improves mental acuity. 4) It s a great social activity: The game can be played as a singles or a doubles game. As pickleball is gaining popularity, you can join a league or gym at many senior communities, community centers or different venues throughout your county. While you can play with friends in a lot of different instances, you don t necessarily need a partner to join a league. You can also be set up with someone new to play with. 5) It s the easiest sport to pick up: The rules are simple and easy to learn. In addition, you can pay to join a league and most of the time through that league, you will be given a paddle and balls or you can invest in your own paddle and wiffle ball inexpensively. No more $60 rounds of golf.
MORE REASONS TO SUPPORT PICKLEBALL IN OUR COMMUNITY: The following is a sample of some of the communities in our area that have pickleball, and this list is growing rapidly. This isn t a brand new phenomenon, in fact we ve seen new developments include pickleball in their amenities for a few years now and older communities are now adding it. Because of its amazing popularity, our local realtors tell us that perspective homebuyers are

HOW DID WE SELECT THE CONTRACTOR WE WILL BE USING? Four contractors bid on the project and then we did an analysis ranking each one in eleven categories. Categories like cost, whether They sub contract or not, responsiveness, warranty of their work among others. Creative Contracting Group or CCG was chosen due to their ability to do all the work with no subcontractors, cost, responsiveness and we ve had experience with them when they worked on our clubhouse refurbishment and the storage unit. Another advantage of CCG is their ability to start the project whenever we wish to start it. The courts can be built in approximately 4 6 weeks. EXPLANATION OF THE COST OF THE PROJECT: The first item is CCG s bid to prepare the site and construct the pickleball courts with the fencing, awning, fans and water fountain. In preparing the site CCG will need to re-route two concrete paths, relocate two light poles and remove three palm trees. CCG s original bid was $73,400 but Lacy was able to negotiate that down to $68,400 for a $5000 savings. The area where we re building happens to include one of the main irrigation systems, which requires some major modifications. Leaderscape will do this work for us. Their original bid was $8985 that again Lacy was able to negotiate down to $7985 for a $1000 savings. The next item is a contingency fee that is typically built into projects like this to account for any unforeseen expenses. We certainly don t want to come back to you later and ask for more money because we didn t plan properly up front. The range of this fee is generally between 10 15% and we established that 12% was appropriate. The next item is a fee for a project manager. Yes, CCG will have a foreman on site but having our own project manager watching the project from Villaggio s perspective is another safeguard for our community and our residents. 2% is standard for permitting a project. The taskforce and the board are in support of adding pickleball to Villaggio, now we need your support!
PICKLEBALL PROJECT COST BREAKDOWN Court Construction CCG $68, Irrigation Modification - Leaderscape % Project Manager - Estimated at 5% Permit 2% TOTAL $90, $169/home
