1 Attention Members We will be introducing PEFAC to the new PEC Council on Thursday January 10th in the early afternoon at Shire Hall. The presentation will inform councillors about PEFAC, our facilities and programs and all that we do for the community. It s vital that we let our new Council know that PEFAC has widespread community support. The best way to do this is through you, our members -we would really appreciate members coming out to the presentation to show them your support. January 15 th from 6 to 8pm New Kids Programs Little Warriors and Kids Fun Fit Little Warriors: Karate or Jujitsu Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate is one of the oldest and most traditional styles of karate. With punching, kicking and close quarters combat it is an efficient method of self defense and a great way to get in shape. Brazilian Jiujitsu (BJJ) is based on the technique that immobilizes or submits the opponent. It teaches joint locks, choke holds and pins, and is often considered the best art to beat an opponent having more physical prowess. Selfconfidence, self-esteem and antibullying are key focus points of our children's program. Kids Fun Fit: This class will focus on enjoying exercise while improving health and fitness focusing on the basic components of fitness cardiovascular, endurance and strength. Combining the best of strength building and after workout flexibility work this class is sure to start a life-long love of fitness for your child!

3 Group Fitness Attention Members Due to the increased membership base we see that classes are becoming more and more full daily. To try and avoid having to add sign up in advance for floor classes we have added a few earlier morning classes to offset the space. We have duplicated the 9am class to an earlier slot and ensured that a Yoga class follows as well. For those of you that can make earlier classes before 9am we encourage that you participate in the new time slots, so we can offer these great classes to as many people as possible. Free Fitness Class of the Month Adult Karate 12pm Thursday January 17 th Come try our NEW Class! New Group Fitness Schedule Pick up a copy of our New Group Fitness Schedule! Schedule goes into effect January 7 th Extra Parking We understand as we get busier finding parking is becoming more difficult. We want to remind members that there is additional parking at the back of the building for you to utilize. Back of building parking can be accessed by the laneway on the Nofrills side of PEFAC.

4 Conor Forbes Personal Training Director Tell me a little bit about yourself? I was born in Hamilton, lived in Toronto as a child and moved to the county when I started public school. I completed high school in Picton then moved to Kingston for college. After college I spent a few years in Scarborough and moved back to the county in I like to think I m easy going, personable and a fun individual to be around. I always try to be optimistic as nothing will ever come from being negative which I think is a problem a lot of people let bring them down. The most important things in my life are my wife, my family, friends and keeping active with exercise. Traveling is also very important to me. I enjoy exploring different parts of Canada but in the last eight years I have also been fortunate to travel around Europe, The Caribbean as well as Central and South America. Traveling is something everybody should have in their life to learn about the world and themselves. When did you decide that the Fitness Industry was for you? I ve always been an active and athletic individual my whole life. I decided the fitness industry was for me when I realized early how many people came to me for advice with their own personal fitness goals. I was able to successfully help people achieve their goals with my own experiences and knowledge which lead me to pursue getting an education in fitness and health promotion. My favourite part of health and fitness is continuously challenging ourselves. Constantly learning more about our body s potential and implementing it into various fitness routines is something that is always changing with science, so it never gets boring. I think any true fitness professional can agree that there is always more to learn. My personal typical weekly fitness routine consists of five active days and two rest days targeting different components of the body with each workout session. Making sure your workouts have variety and specificity to them is key to ensure you get the best results while avoiding adaptation. What is your favourite thing about working with people? My favourite component of working with people is being the missing piece of the puzzle that gets them to not only complete their workouts, but also motivate and educate them on how to achieve their fitness goals efficiently and safely. Seeing my clients overcome their personal challenges and achieve their goals because of the service I have given them is the best part of my job. Do you believe in Cheat Days? Anyone that knows my personal fitness style and beliefs knows I am a big believer in living a life of moderation. If you are working hard enough most of the time, then you can afford to award yourself with cheat days periodically. What s the point of working so hard if you can t reward yourself with the things you enjoy? I may be known for my constant prep meals of Tupperware chicken, broccoli, and sweet potatoes...but believe it or not I can also be found with a pound of wings and a beer sometimes. I d have to say my favourite cheat meal would be a popular one, pizza! When you were a kid you were on the Dolphins Swim Team, tell me what was your favourite part of that experience? My favourite Dolphins experience would have to be getting first place in my first race at my first ever swim meet swimming breast stroke. Do you have any Fitness Goals? My current fitness goals are to improve all aspects of my training including my strength, muscular endurance, aerobic capacity, mobility and flexibility. These are all things I have gained lots of progress over the years but that is what keeps me achieving my goals, never being satisfied with your current state. There is always room to improve which I try to do every day. Tell me one thing you think the Members don t know about you? One thing that members don t know about me is that one of my favourite hobbies is playing music. I mostly enjoy playing guitar but also enjoy playing bass, drums and mandolin. I used to play in a band that played shows at various venues around central Ontario and made a couple of albums years ago. I still enjoy playing on my own and with a few various friends when we get the opportunity. I think exercise and music are two things everyone should have in their lives.

5 Personal Training New Year, New Opportunities to improve your fitness! Ladies Bootcamp Ladies Boot Camp is a group training program offering a full body workout with various exercises focusing on different aspects of fitness. These aspects include weight loss, improving muscular endurance, muscular strength and cardiovascular fitness. Workouts are designed in a circuit format and all exercises have optional difficulties for different fitness levels. This is a year-round program which runs in eight-week sessions. Next Session: Jan 8th Feb 28 th. Tuesdays 4:30pm & Thursdays 5:30pm. Cost: Members $120 and Non-Members $150. Return to Fitness This program is twice a week and is designed for adults who have had recent cardiac problems and are looking to redevelop their strength. Return to Fitness will increase awareness and educate the participant on the value and benefits of physical activity in order to increase quality of life and decrease health concerns *Must be referred by PEFHT or equivalent. *. Next Session: Jan 15th Feb 7 th. Tuesdays & Thursdays 1pm. Cost: $50/person. Women on Weights This program is designed to help educate women on the importance of implementing weight training into their fitness routine. Learn about the different exercises and how to execute them properly. Focus on muscles most females tend to neglect out of fear for over development. This program has the qualities of individual personal training but in a productive, motivating and encouraging environment. Next Session: Jan 14th March 7th Monday & Thursdays at 10am or Jan 15th March 7th Tuesdays 5:30pm & Thursdays 6:30pm. Cost: Members $120 and Non-Members $150. 6 Fundraising Little Caesars Pizza Fundraiser Now until January 26 th you can order your Pizza kit from PEFAC! Order online or at Reception. You can expect your Pizza Kit to arrive 2 to 3 weeks after the closing date at PEFAC for your convenient pick up. These pizza kits are sure to be a big hit with your family, help support your favourite fitness facility! Superbowl Squares This hit fundraiser starts January 7 th. Squares are $5 each. Pick any square you like, and we will do the rest on Super Bowl Sunday. Prizes for 1 st Quarter, Half Time, 3 rd Quarter and Final Score. No Football Knowledge Required! Hollie Baby Pool Guess the following categories, most correct wins a PRIZE! Date Gender Time Weight Guesses are collected at Reception, $2 a guess. Chili Cook Off Submit a chili to our PEFAC cook off February 7 th Vote on your favourite for Best Chili (Mild) and Best Chili (Spicy) $10 to Submit a Chili (includes vote) and $5 to Vote (you get a sample of every chili) Come for lunch and help support PEFAC! Must sign up by February 1 st to enter your chili. Valentine s Day Dance With Valentine s Day coming up keep an eye out for our Dance tickets going on sale! PEFAC would like to invite you February 15 th 7pm to 1am to the Elks Lodge Picton for a night of fun, dancing and a great time with friends! Cost is $10 per person or $15 per couple.
