1 College of Micronesia - FSM COURSE OUTLINE COVER PAGE Course Title: Table Tennis Department and Number: ESS102tt Course Description: This is a semester-long course designed to improve cardiovascular endurance, speed, agility, flexibility and discipline through the individual & team sport of Table Tennis, to give students an appreciation of the role regular physical activity plays in the quality of life. Students will learn basic information such as the origin of the sport, equipments and materials and skills necessary to play table tennis, including hand-eye co-ordination, physical training, introduction to sports sciences, sports management/organization and team work. Course topics also include evaluation of current fitness levels, injury prevention and nutrition specific to table tennis and other sports. Course Prepared by: Roldan Q. PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES (PLOs) 5.1: Determine healthy lifestyles by describing the value of physical activity to a healthful lifestyle and participating in regular physical activity for at least one semester. 5.2: Demonstrate professionalism, interpersonal skills, teamwork, leadership and decision making skills. B. Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs): The student will be able to (TSWBAT) 1. Acquire the basic knowledge in table tennis which includes the origin of the sport, equipments and materials, rules of the game. 2. Demonstrate the fundamental skills in table tennis. 3. Identify strengths and weaknesses in fitness level and acquire the principles of training that help to prevent injuries and improve performance through active participation in the activities. 4. Exhibit the values of sportsmanship, teamwork and camaraderie and demonstrate the basic knowledge in coaching / officiating and administration in sports activities or mini-tournament. (OSEP) B. Conduct game-based activities and training to improve performance during actual game; 2.4. Identify strengths and weaknesses in fitness level and acquire the principles of training that help to prevent injuries and improve performance through active participation in the activities. 3.1 Identify strengths and weaknesses for sports related fitness through testing of agility & speed (via T-test), cardiorespiratory endurance (via Rockport test), flexibility (via sit and reach test), and power (via Vertical jump test). 3.2Describe the importance of physical preparation and identify the necessary measures for sports injury prevention; Pre-post physical fitness testing Separate manual for performance target as rubrics Recitation as graded with a rubric, quiz, CLO 4. Exhibit the values of sportsmanship, teamwork and camaraderie and demonstrate the basic knowledge in coaching / officiating and administration in sports activities or mini-tournament. (OSEP)

Required Materials: Exercise towel, bottled water, appropriate attire (loosefitting, comfortable clothing that allows a full range of motion around all of the joints of the body), and a wire-bound notebook.
