1 Facility Tour 2013 General Information Approximately 70, 000 square feet $12,000,000 to build Open to YSU students currently enrolled in classes Memberships sold to faculty and staff. Expanded memberships are available for faculty and staff spouses/domestic partners and dependent children ages living in a common household Solely for informal use and Campus Recreation sponsored programs; no academic classes or athletic events held in Andrews All hours of operation including holiday and break closings, program schedules and Department updates can be found on website - Control Desk One of the only Privately Funded Recreation Facilities Students did not pay for the facility until they began using it (Roughly $60/semester) Controlled Access (YSU ID required for entrance-no exceptions; students cannot enter by giving their banner number to the desk staff, must have photo ID) Aerobics Studio Track RecTrac program can track students access in the facility at all times Largest Student Employer on Campus (Employs over 150 students) Free Floating Floor (Inches of rubber underneath floor to cushion impact and support joints) Group X Classes (Student and Contracted Instructors) ~35/week Drop in formats that include instructional type classes such as Tai Chi Class offerings/formats change semesterly based on current requests/surveys of users Offer a variety of national fitness and wellness certifications 1/8 of a mile Direction of the track changes daily to decrease wear and tear on the track but also on the joints of our users Walk inner two lanes, jog outer lane
2 High Ropes Course Suspended obstacle course Seven different interchangeable obstacles Wheelchair accessible Used for teambuilding (open to campus and community registrations for program set up on website) Basketball Courts Mondo flooring designed for easy maintenance Dividers used to separate courts for other activities (Volleyball, Badminton, Clinics, Workshops, other programs requiring large amounts of space) Equipment Issue Locker Rooms All equipment for basketball, racquetball, volleyball, walleyball, and badminton Jump ropes, heart rate monitors, lifting belts, locks, and towels are also available YSU ID Required to rent equipment Daily use lockers available locks must be removed at the end of the day Locks and towels are provided free of charge at Equipment Issue Showers are equipped with body wash for convenience Hair dryers and outlets are available for hair straighteners/curling irons/etc. Strength and Conditioning Area SPINNING class sign-in occurs here at the beginning of each class 2-3 SPINNING classes offered a day during the semester S&C staff members are responsible for maintaining and ensuring cleanliness of equipment and providing support for patrons; including spotting/form and technique assistance Equipment is traded in and updated on a rotating basis in order to keep up with new trends and continue to provide state-of-the-art pieces for users Full sleeved shirts are required on strength equipment Tank tops are allowed on cardio but no mid drifts or excessively short shorts New user orientations are available to assist with proper use of equipment
3 Adventure Recreation Rockwall height 53 (One of the tallest in Ohio) Bouldering addition was added in Summer 2012 due to the increase in activity on the wall and popularity of bouldering at YSU; competitions are held here and YSU is part of the University Bouldering Series Other programs include: Kayaking clinics, backpacking trips, climbing clinics, aquatic activities, Freshman Outdoor Recreation Experience Wellness Resource Center Students and faculty/staff use this area for health and wellness resources Free nutritionist/dietitian services and fitness assessment testing for students Office works hand in hand with the HPES and the Dietetics programs on campus Meditation Studio Designated by the Davis family Originally designed as a chapel; it was changed to a meditation studio for a public state institution The Golden Rule is shown in different languages around top of the room Pool (located in Beeghly Center) Pool is located in Beeghly Center- Open lap swimming is available at designated times Check website for updated open swim times for the current semester Athletics and academics use the pool as well ID needed for access Program Information (Registrations are done in the administration office between 8am-8pm; some programs require online registration) Programs include: Adventure Rec: Belaying, climbing and bouldering clinics, trips, kayaking, and teambuilding Certifications: Lifeguard, CPR/ First Aid, CPR & Lifeguard Instructor courses, personal training, Group X, SPINNING and a variety of other Fitness and Wellness workshops Fitness: Personal training, instructional clinics, new user orientations, Group X & SPINNING classes Wellness: Fitness assessments, registered dietitian, blood pressure screenings, table talks and a variety of wellness education resources Intramurals: Basketball, arena football, volleyball, table tennis, flag football, ultimate frisbee, soccer, badminton, gaming (Halo, NBA, Madden)
4 FAQ s When can I use the building? Must be at least 16 years old to purchase a guest pass or enrolled in YSU classes to gain access with YSU ID; 17 years old to use the strength area Access begins the first day Andrews is open for the enrolled semester How do I use the building? Must have a valid YSU ID and present it at the control desk (NO EXCEPTIONS); students cannot enter by giving their banner number to the desk staff All currently enrolled YSU students (enrolled in the current semester) have access to the building; access begins the first day Andrews is open for the enrolled semester Faculty/Staff/Expanded members only have access with a purchased membership What is the proper attire? Full sleeved T-Shirt is required in strength area Tank tops and sleeveless shirts are permitted in the cardio, ab/spinning and court areas, track and aerobics studio Proper attire is required to help prevent the spread of disease through perspiration and to protect the equipment and safety of the user Athletic shorts or pants and athletic shoes are required A full updated list of proper attire can be located on the department website How do I check out equipment? A valid YSU ID is required to rent all equipment Equipment must be returned by the original user so it can be removed properly from the student ID that checked it out; failure to do so may result in equipment rental suspension or a fee Are locks and lockers provided? Lockers are free for students and locks are provided with a valid YSU ID at Equipment Issue Lockers and locks are only for use during the day and personal locks will be cut off if abandoned at the end of each night-belongings will be bagged and tagged and stored in equipment issue What if I do not know how to use a piece of equipment? All of the Strength and Conditioning staff are capable of giving instructions for the equipment; personal training is available if more personalized and in depth instruction is desired
5 What happens if any of the policies are violated or rules are broken?
