2 King St Welcome to the Priory Centre First used by Benedictine monks in the 12th century, the Priory Centre is now a community hub. Its historic architecture and central location make it an ideal venue for meetings, training, parties or other events. Browse our range of rooms for hire at the end of this booklet. We run a daily programme of groups and activities which are open to everyone, as well as providing a venue for groups run by other providers. Pop in and have a look around - or keep up to date with what s happening on our Facebook page. Everyone is welcome. Join in with arts & crafts, play dominoes, table-tennis or board games. Tackle a Sudoku or a crossword puzzle - read the paper or have a chat! Refreshments are provided. Priory Friendship Club Noble Hall - All adults welcome Fridays 2pm to 4pm Regular attendees at the Club also get reduced rates on trips which we try to arrange during the year. Cost: There is no charge, but we do welcome a 70p weekly donation. Contact: Neil
4 Priory Centre Activity Groups Community Lunch Midweek Tasty Bites Priory Café - All ages welcome Fridays 1pm to 2pm Meet, eat and mingle! Our weekly community lunch is a great excuse to eat out on a budget, learn new recipes and meet new people. Book by 12 noon on the preceding Wed. Please let us know of any food allergies or special dietary requirements at the time of booking. Priory Café - All ages welcome Wednesdays 12pm to 2pm Tasty snacks or light bites are served in the Café on a Wednesday, including favourites such as frittatas, soups and quiches - freshly baked in the Priory Kitchen. 5 Priory Centre Activity Groups Priory Pantry CAFF Priory Reception Mon-Fri 9.30 to 10.30am The Priory Pantry provides an amazing selection of baked produce to those needing support in the local community. Produce includes a selection of baguettes, sandwiches and rolls, pastries including sausage rolls and slices, cakes and doughnuts - all kindly donated by Gregg s Great Yarmouth. Noble Hall - Everyone welcome Fridays 9.30 to 11.30am CAFF is short for Crafty Art Fundraising Friends. It s a new group for Priory friends to come along and take part in the creation of art and craft items to be put on sale. Profits are re-invested in the Priory s community groups. Tea/coffee provided! Cost: All produce is free to those who need support in the community. Contact: Neil Cost: There is no charge for this group. Contact: Neil
6 Priory Centre Activity Groups The Hive Basic IT IT Suite - Everyone welcome Mon-Fri 9.30am to 1pm Struggling with technology? Our trained volunteers can get you started with your computer, laptop or Smartphone. We can help you get on Facebook, get you shopping or banking online, or searching for work on Universal Job Match - whatever you need. We can even help you to build your CV or write a covering letter. IT Suite - All levels welcome Wednesdays 2.30pm to 4pm Join the Learn My Way programme to develop your IT skills from the very basics of how to use a mouse and keyboard. Learn at your own pace in a friendly, supported environment, building your confidence and knowledge as you work through the various stages. Achievement certificates awarded. 10 Groups by Other Providers Freestyle at Mind Priory Art Group Buttery - Arts & crafts for all Mondays 10am to 3pm We are FREESTYLE AT MIND and a very friendly group, where everyone can enjoy taking part in a variety of arts and crafts - including knitting and sewing - or bring your own craft. All refreshments and nibbles are included in the entry fee. Your first day is FREE. Come and have a cuppa to see if you would like to join us. Buttery - Everyone welcome Wednesdays 1pm to 4pm Fridays 1pm to 4pm We are a friendly group of like minded people learning/practising arts, crafts and multi-media. Help/tuition is available if needed. Entry fee includes tea/coffee and biscuits. Cost: 3 for the day. Refreshments and nibbles are included. 11 Groups by Other Providers Broadland Woodturners Art Appreciation Group (U3A) Café - Everyone welcome 2nd Tues each month 7.30 to 9.30pm Everyone welcome 2nd Tues each month 7.30 to 9.30pm Improve your woodturning skills through practical training. At our meetings you are able to watch live demonstrations of woodturning by professionals and learn a great deal about the craft. Why not come along and see what it s all about? Friendly and informal. We analyse different aspects of the visual arts paintings, prints, sculpture and installations etc. We look at how images are composed, the historical context that affected their creation and the artist s intention. 12 Hire a Room First used by Benedictine monks in the 12th century, and as a school from 1853 to 1992, the Priory Centre is now a building for community use. We can accommodate events from one to one meetings to conferences for up to 200 people and rooms are available from 8.00am to 10.00pm. The adjoining Noble Hall, Buttery and Refectory on the ground floor can be hired as separate rooms or as one large space - perfect for live performances, conferences, children s parties and much more. Contact reception for rates. The Monks Suite, on the first floor, comprises four rooms of varying sizes. These rooms have a modern feel, whilst retaining the character of their historic setting. They are well equipped for meeting or training purposes and all areas have coded Wi-Fi available on request. 13 Noble Hall Dimensions: x 9.01 metres Built in 1106, the Noble Hall is the oldest part of the Priory Centre and its size makes it a perfect venue for large meetings and conferences. The Hall, which is on the ground floor, with doors to outside, also lends itself to celebration parties or live performances and can be opened up to the adjoining Buttery and Refectory for additional space or break out areas. The Buttery Dimensions: 5.5 x 9.0 metres The Buttery is a versatile space, situated between the Noble Hall and the old Refectory on the ground floor, with views out to St Nicholas Minster. It can be hired as a room on its own, or as part of a larger space for parties or other functions. Various layouts can be requested to suit meeting or training needs, or it can be arranged for informal drop-ins or practical demonstrations. Dimensions: 6.8 x 5.5 metres The Refectory is ideal for breakfast/ lunch meetings, with access to the Priory Kitchen. It can also be used as additional space to the Buttery if required. The Refectory 11
14 Priory Kitchen Dimensions: Recently refurbished with two new ovens and extractor system, the kitchen is available for use alongside an event or to use as a training facility. The Priory Kitchen can be hired on its own or with the Refectory and/or Buttery/ Noble Hall if required. Please contact our reception team for rates. Grey Monks Dimensions: 9.40 x 5.42 metres Grey Monks is an ideal space for larger meetings or training groups. It is quiet and naturally well lit, with fine views of St Nicholas Minster. The room is well equipped for training purposes, with a screen and data projector, as well as a conference case with whiteboard and flipchart. Dimensions: 3.7 x 2.7 metres Brown Monks is a small room which makes an ideal space for one-to-one meetings, small clinics or therapies. Quiet and naturally well lit, it is furnished with two chairs and a table and, as part of the Monks Suite, it has coded Wi-Fi with the code available from reception. Brown Monks 12
15 IT Suite Dimensions: 5.7 x 5.6 metres Home to The Hive the IT Suite is open Mon-Fri for anyone to drop in and use our computers to search for jobs, send s or surf the Internet. Trained volunteers are available to offer tuition or assistance. The room can also be used for IT training courses and inhouse laptops can be supplied if required. Looking for a party venue?
