3 BRIAN WOODS SHOW JUMPING DAY WHY WE HOLD THIS SPECIAL EVENT Brian Woods was a past president of the Whittlesea Pony Club. He was one of two patients that were to be given a kidney transplant at St Vincent s Hospital. He was told that by having a transplant he would probably get another 5 years of life. He actually survived a further 10 years. Although he was on medication to the extent of tablets a day, as well as dialysis at various times, he continued to help out and retain his position on the Committee. After his passing, the Club wanted to run an annual event in his honour and parents were approached as to what event the Club should hold. As Brian always preferred show jumping, the Club decided to hold an Open Event, asking other Clubs to compete for a perpetual shield. This was done for a number of years until such time as numbers for the event dwindled, so it was decided to make it an internal event.. Hence the Brian Woods Show jumping Day. HOW WE RUN IT Sashes to 6 th Place for each grade. Participation ribbons for all riders. Overall sashes 1 st to 6th - trophy for overall winner. This event will be held at the pony club grounds. This is an Internal Competition, not an instructional rally. Riders are permitted to ride more than one horse in any grade. All members are eligible to participate. The day will begin with Gear Check at 9:30 am, and the competition starting at 10.00am. Gates open at 8:30am. ALL FAMILIES ARE TO HELP SET UP & PACK UP The day will commence with Competition in Two Phases F Grade riders first, followed by E Grade, D Grade and C Grade riders There will be two events for each grade Article (Competition in Two Phases); & Article (Competition over Two Round s) (Showjumping rules can be found at Riders must bring Membership Cards. No card no ride rule. Riders are to walk the course prior to their events. The canteen will be open. P a g e 3 13

7 NEXT RALLY APRIL 24TH Duty Coordinator: JO BURTON Families on Duty: Blackley, Considine, Harris D/C REPORT ~ MARCH 2016 Our March rally was actually Easter Sunday. This left our no s quite low. There was a total of 14 riding members including 1 come and try. Two instructors were booked, Aimee Stuart and Wayne Hirst. Wayne is a new instructor for our club who has had many years riding and training with the mounted police. Wayne took all 3 groups through some drill work. These lessons were absolutely amazing to watch. How Wayne was able to bring the riders together was just amazing. I have received some great feedback from both riders and parents and we will definitely be seeing more of Wayne in the future. Two parents, David Walsh and Sally Stott also helped out with the rally today. David took 2 groups through some freshman s rounds in the morning and Sally assisted a group to work towards their D certificate. Today was also Jenna s first rally as canteen manager. We were short a rostered helper due to the reduced no s but Jenna did an amazing job, also purchasing Easter eggs for an Easter egg hunt after the lunch time meeting. During the meeting, Anna Gurnett was awarded an award on behalf of the Whittlesea Pony club for her amazing achievement of not only being in the winning team for Grade 2 dressage at the recent State Championships, but also to win the individual State title. Well done Anna. Our next rally will also be held on a public holiday which will more than likely reduce no s again. Riders and parents were reminded again at the meeting about the importance of letting me know your attendance. If you have already replied, you are not required to respond again. Further s requesting attendance is aimed at parents and riders who have not responded. Future rally plans and groups will now be organized according to your response. If your name is not in a group, it is because I have not received a response and will from now on assume that rider is NOT attending. I hope all attending riders and parents enjoyed this Easter rally Bec Lacekels P a g e 7 13
