1 z Heritage Muskego Heritage Newsletter January 2019 S64 W13780 Janesville Road, Muskego, WI heritagesenior.com Letter from the Director Dear residents and families, Happy 2019! To all our residents, old and new, we hope this year brings new inspiration, new goals, new achievements and plenty of happiness to your life. The staff here is already hard at work on our own goals and game plans for This year, as part of our ongoing efforts, we are focused on hiring and training even more amazing caregivers, upgrading our equipment and technologies and making improvements throughout the community. Our ultimate goal for 2019 and beyond is to provide you and your loved ones with a consistently high quality of service and a true feeling of community here. As always, if there is something we can do that would improve your experience with us don t hesitate to let us know. Enjoy the new year! We are excited to spend it with you! Sincerely, Leslie Hyland Leslie Hyland, Senior Executive Director The Heritage Senior Living Mission: To provide the highest standard while protecting, cherishing, and dignifying the knowledge, value, and joy of our respected residents.
2 w A Message from the Wellness Nurse Give your Brain a Workout this New Year One of the most common New Year s resolutions is to become more active, which is a great goal! But this year, why not also resolve to keep your brain more active, as well? Keep learning. Challenging your brain with mental exercises helps stimulate brain cells, thereby keeping your memory sharp. Read a new book, join a different club, take an online class or even just challenge yourself to a new crossword or jigsaw puzzle. Use all your senses. The more sense you involve, the more your brain will be involved in a particular process or activity. Try joining a baking club or working with ceramics, noting the feel and scent of the materials as go. Tidy up your life. Reduce clutter around your home and take advantage of calendars, planners, maps and lists to keep track of everyday information. Spending less mental energy on remembering birthdays or appointments frees your mind up to better learn new things. Jaime Schwingel VP of Quality and Clinical Operations Take up journaling or write your life story. Writing can improve both your memory and your ability to communicate. A Message from Culinary Winter Greens for a Healthier You Winter is a great time to grab some greens, since these leafy veggies are currently in season. Stocking up on them is also a great way to help you stick to your New Year s resolution of living a healthier lifestyle! Kale and spinach are probably the most common of the leafy greens, but there are plenty more options to choose from. Why not add a little protein to your diet with a serving of collard greens? Or supercharge your body with a dose of vitamins A, C and K from Swiss chard. If you re thinking of cooking with any of these greens, don t be intimidated; all you really need is a little bit of oil, garlic and some sea salt to cut the bitterness. I recommend flash sautéing them in the oil and garlic, then sprinkling your desired Alan Molina Executive Chef amount of sea salt on top. It s a great side dish or a healthy and filling snack between meals. Our Quality Promise to You Our quality promise starts with commitment. Heritage Senior Living is committed to listening to YOU. Got an idea? A suggestion? We want to hear it. Quality matters so we appreciate your ideas and input. Whether you are an employee, a resident, a family member or a visitor, let us know. us at: quality@heritageal.com

4 Last Month in Pictures Food for Your Mood Presentation Dr. Janice Jurack from Muskego Health and Wellness came to Heritage Muskego on December 11 to present tips and tricks for feeding your body right.
