5 DISTINGUISHED FACULTY Pam Peeke, MD, MPH, FACP Dr. Pamela Peeke is an internationally renowned physician, scientist and expert in the fields of nutrition, metabolism, stress and fitness. Dr. Peeke is a Pew Foundation Scholar in Nutrition and Metabolism, Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland, Fellow of the American College of Physicians and chief lifestyle expert for WebMD. Dr. Peeke s New York Times bestseller, The Hunger Fix, is the first consumer book presenting both the new science of food and addiction as well as a sciencebased plan for detox and recovery. Edward Abramson, Ph.D Professor Emeritus at California State University, and former Director of the Eating Disorders Center at Chico Community Hospital. Author of five books including Emotional Eating and It s NOT Just Baby Fat! Dr. Abramson has appeared on dozens of television and radio programs including 20/20, Hard Copy, Joan Rivers and is routinely quoted in publications including NY Times, O, The Oprah Magazine, Washington Post, and US Weekly. Ed is a Fellow of the Obesity Society and writes a blog for Psychology Today Magazine. Jon Robison, Ph.D, MS Holds a doctorate in health education/exercise physiology and a master of science in human nutrition from Michigan State University where he has been teaching for 15 years in the Nutrition and Physiology Departments as an Adjunct Assistant Professor. He is also a Adjunct Associate Professor at Western Michigan University where he teaches in the Holistic Health Care Program. He specializes in health promotion and human behavior, with a particular interest in why people do what they do and don t do what they don t do. Author of The Spirit and Science of Holistic Health. Mark Schwartz, ScD Over the past 30 years, Dr. Schwartz has achieved international recognition for his contributions in a variety of clinical arenas, including the treatment of intimacy disorders, marital and sexual dysfunction, sexual compulsivity, sexual trauma and eating disorders. Author of Sexual Abuse and Eating Disorders, Sexual Compulsive Behavior, and Sex and Gender. He is currently the consulting clinical director for Castlewood Treatment Centers in St. Louis, Missouri and the Clinical Co-Director for Monarch Cove Treatment Center for Eating Disorders. Margo Maine, Ph.D, FAED, CEDS A Founder and Adviser of the National Eating Disorders Association and Founding Fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders, Dr. Maine is author of Treatment of Eating Disorders: Bridging the Research- Practice Gap; Effective Clinical Practice in the Treatment of Eating Disorders; The Body Myth; Father Hunger; and Body Wars; and senior editor of Eating Disorders: The Journal of Treatment and Prevention. Carolyn Costin, MA, M.Ed, MFT A highly respected and experienced clinician, a dedicated educator and a recognized agent for change in the field of eating disorders. Recovered herself, Carolyn pioneered the concept of being fully recovered. Founder and director of Monte Nido & Affiliates. Author of 8 Keys to Recovery From an Eating Disorder, 100 Questions and Answers About Eating Disorders, The Eating Disorder Sourcebook, and Your Dieting Daughter. Ann Kearney-Cooke, Ph.D New York Times Bestselling author, psychologist and researcher who specializes in issues related to women s health and wellness. She was named a Distinguished Scholar at the Partnership for Gender Specific Medicine at Columbia University for the development of the Helping Girls Become Strong Woman project. She was the recipient of the National Eating Disorders Association 2012 Craig Johnson Award for Clinical Practice and Training. She has been an expert on national television shows including the Oprah Winfrey Show, the Today show, Good Morning America and CNN. Anita Johnston, Ph.D Director of the Anorexia & Bulimia Center of Hawaii which she cofounded in 1982, Clinical Director and Founder of Ai Pono Eating Disorders Programs in Honolulu, and Senior Advisor and Clinical Consultant for Focus Center for Eating Disorders in Tennessee. In 1986, she developed Hawaii s first in-patient eating disorders treatment program at Kahi Mohala Hospital. She is the author of Eating in the Light of the Moon: How Women Can Transform Their Relationships with Food Through Myth, Metaphor, and Storytelling.
6 Judith Banker, Ph.D Founder and executive director of the Center for Eating Disorders, a non-profit support and outpatient treatment center in Ann Arbor, MI and consulting director of the Adolescent Eating Disorders Recovery Partial Hospitalization Program at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. The 2011 recipient of the Academy for Eating Disorders Clinical Leadership Award she lectures internationally on clinical treatment, in particular on the transtheoretical application of psychodynamic principles and techniques in eating disorder treatment and the integration of research with clinical experience. Dena Cabrera, Psy.D Serves as the clinical director of adolescent services for Rosewood Centers for Eating Disorders and is the executive clinical director of training and education for The Rosewood Institute. She is involved in program development, staff training, and supervision throughout the Rosewood system. Dr. Cabrera is the co-author of The Mom in the Mirror: Body Image, Beauty and Life After Pregnancy. She presents nationally and internationally on mental health issues. Lee Roach, MS, RD, LDN Is a Nutrition Therapist and Program Development Consultant. For 35 years she has provided nutrition services within the behavioral health arena in a variety of practice settings. For the past 9 years, she has specialized in treatment of addictions and eating disorders. Currently she consults with both ED intensive outpatient programs and adult residential care, including The Ranch, Nunnelly, TN. Jancey Wickstom, AM, LCSW Oversees the DBT Program at Timberline Knolls, where she works across all disciplines to help integrate DBT into all facets of treatment for residents. Before joining Timberline Knolls, Jancey provided DBT groups and individual therapy for adults with self-harming behaviors. She also served as a psychotherapist in Chicago, where she provided individual and group therapy to adolescents with trauma backgrounds. Patricia Pitts, Ph.D Nationally renowned expert in the treatment of eating disorders. She has developed and directed both inpatient and outpatient hospital eating disorder programs and has served as a consultant to numerous facilities. Her broadcast appearances include Woman to Woman, Dr. Drew, NBC s Extra, and news programs such as KCAL, CBS and MSNBC, among others. She was featured in the aired documentary Prisoners of The Flesh, and was a columnist for Choice Magazine. A Licensed Clinical Psychologist, she also holds a M.A. in theology from Fuller Seminary and is a licensed Marriage, Family and Child Therapist. Judith Brisman, Ph.D Founding Director of the Eating Disorder Resource Center in New York City. She is co-author of Surviving an Eating Disorder: Strategies for Family and Friends and she is on the editorial board of Eating Disorders: The Journal of Treatment and Prevention. Dr. Brisman is an associate editor for the journal Contemporary Psychoanalysis, and she is on the teaching faculty at the William Alanson White Institute. She has published and lectured extensively regarding the interpersonal treatment of eating disorders and is in private practice in New York City. Buck Runyan, MS, LMFT, LPC, CEDS Chief Operations Officer and Clinical Director with Center for Discovery s adolescent and adult residential eating disorders programs located around the United States. Buck regularly trains multidisciplinary professionals by lecturing on a local, regional and national basis. He remains active with the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals as the President for the Board of Directors 2013 to 2014.
