Box 121 ATHELSTONE SA 5076 Secretary Tim Mee THE COG - RCM Meeting 1726 Bulletin 17 October 2018 President s News Presidents blog for Cog 17/10/18 Club Assembly was held last week and a full programme of issues that affect the club were raised These included Overseas Disaster The Clubs response to the Earthquake and Tsunami in Indonesia has resulted with the club funding one shelter Box. It is not a budgeted item, so the Presidents discretionary fund has been utilised. Local Farmers Relief Members attention was drawn to the project by The Rotary Club of Barossa to auction donated wine for Australian Famers (see flyer attached to the COG) We have an opportunity to have a win/win by purchasing a dozen or more. President Elect Peter Mayer has offered to fill this role and the board has accepted his offer. Some juggling of other roles will need to occur and this will be managed and brought up at the AGM in December. PNG Project Following the successful launch on 1 August the club international committee are meeting monthly on Zoom (similar to Skype) and good progress is being made. The Zoom meeting enables the Aust College of Midwifes and PNG Midwifes as well as a rep from The RC of Port Moresby to be online with our committee. (some issues with connectivity are still being sorted out but that is to be expected when setting up technology in PNG. A tender for a consultant to develop the curriculum for training the midwifes and facilitators has been concluded and a consultant selected. RAWCS accreditation has also been received as well as several small donations of cash. The RAWCS status will make donations tax deductable in Australia and issues of GST have also been resolved. Redistricting The club voted on this proposal last November and it now has a District committee of experienced Rotarians working on the new district structure. Gender mix and youth have not been overlooked in the make up of the final committee. Current Group 7 Assistant Governor David Jones will be the first DG of District 9510 in Membership The membership committee is seeking to recruit new members and will try to recruit persons from our alumni and volunteers at projects. Ie midwifes, tree planting. Meanwhile keeping current members happy is also a focus. Page 1

2 Kiosk After a modest period in Winter the Kiosk takings have moved forward with the change in seasons, nicer weather and school holidays. A new roster is in place and new Ice Cream freezer has been supplied. Miniature Railway This project now has the support of a majority of Campbelltown Councillors and will proceed. We have indicated that we support their endeavours but await advice of what they are looking for from Rotary. Meeting Introductions /Toasts Some members expressed some concerns in relation to the lack of formality associated with the meetings. This point was taken and the role of the chairperson for meetings will be refocused as we close out the trial period of no toasts or invocation. It was pointed out that in the past some members were getting the toasts and invocation wrong so it was embarrassing and disrespectful to perform them incorrectly. However the matter will be brought back to a club assembly at the conclusion of the trial period (end of December) Upcoming events Members are reminded of a number of important events coming up in the next few months These include High Tea for ARH Drought Relief through Rotary Barossa Club auctioning wine in Nuriootpa End Polio Film night Bohemian Rhapsody at various theatres Quiz Night- to assist Eastern Adelaide Domestic Violence. At Sferas Modbury The Club has a number of tables and if you wish to attend tickets are $20 per person Contact Paul if you want a seat. 3 Friday 26 October Community Quiz Night Benefiting Eastern Adelaide Domestic Violence services Saturday 27 October 2018-Fund raiser support dam building in Pakistan Today I shared, briefly, with Paul and other friends at the meeting the fund raising dinner that I have planned with a few other Pakistani-Australian. This is to support new Pakistan Prime Minister's request to support dam building due to severe water shortage. The event is a $50/person seated dinner (Pakistani-Indian food), plus some sufi music, dress show, auction, raffle. It will be a good multicultural event. We will serve as per friends' dietry requirements i.e. vegetarian, vegan, halal. The dinner is on Saturday 27 October 2018 at San Giorgio La Molara Club (11 Henry St. Payneham) I am requesting for this 27th October event to be included in the COG and requesting to kindly declare it as fellowhip event. Could you please advise Emiko of your intention so she can look at bulk reservation for suitable accommodation for everyone, also how long you intend to stay(arrive & depart), unless you have already done so, but still let her know you are attending & were you are staying. Graeme Packer USA VISIT TRIP FROM MORIALTA WILL BE October 2019 Friendship Agreement between RC of Usa of Japan and RC of Morialta has been continuing since The next reciprocal visit is from Morialta to Usa in October next year. The group travels from east to south-west using JR trains. PAPUA AND NEW GUINEA PROJECT Our project has now been registered with Rotary Australia Overseas Aid Fund which means that donors can receive a tax deductible receipt for donations to this fund. It also means that charitable trusts can make donations for this project.
