OPENING AND WELCOME Suben welcomed all and opened the meeting with the serenity prayer. OWNER Suben 2. CONFIRMATION OF PREVIOUS MINUTES Koosl proposed, Niel seconded. APOLOGIES Vince, Sandil, David, Anil MATTERS ARISING FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES Belinda requested that decisions taken at the July meeting regarding non-advertising of Germiston and Primrose events be reconsidered in light of the fact that Kevin has stepped down as a member of both groups and the decision would affect members who were not party to the

3 violation. This was discussed and approved by vote. Noted that there was an attempt to retract the newspaper article, but due to time constraints, this had not been possible. Belinda undertook to provide the Area Office with updated contact persons for these groups. All area events are to be forwarded to Area Office and will be discussed at Area Assembly prior to being advertised. Noted that traditions violation by an individual will be dealt with on a personal basis. As there has been no communication with the Area Secretary it was decided to advertise the position 3 VACANCIES AND APPOINTMENTS Positions still vacant: General Service Office East Rand Area Class A Trustee position will become vacant New vacancy General Service Trustee, Literature and Publications. Applications close 9/9/2016 Literature Representative PIC- ( Currently carried by Koos and Sandil) CPC- (Currently carried by Koos and Sandil) Current Chairman, Treasurer, Delegate and Alternate Delegate rotate out in September. An application for the Chair position has been received. Area Assembly Secretary Requirements for above positions can be found on the website alternatively;, Suben or Vincent can be contacted. GSRs requested to continue to advertise service positions at their groups for both GSO and East Rand Area. Vacant positions will be ed to GSRs 4 CHAIRPERSON S REPORT All Vincent Last month I was tasked with contacting our Area Secretary Bonnie to enquire if she was in a position to continue with her position considering that she was absent for the past 3 consecutive meetings. I have tried the contact number contained in the Area Minutes as well as her on numerous occasions with no response. got the contact information from her group which was the same as the minutes. Her group member reported that she was not seen at her group recently. In view of this, I would like to propose that we advertise the Area Secretary position for election at the AGM in September. I had communication from Frank (Chairperson of the Pretoria Convention) asking if the East rand would mind purchasing raffle tickets to raise cash for the convention coffers. These tickets will be sold in our area by SAYPAA members on the east rand. As most of you would know, Pretoria is also a small region with even fewer groups than we have. I have advised Frank that I foresee no reason for the East Rand not supporting this initiative, but if however, the assembly feels otherwise, I will gladly advise the convention committee of your decision.

4 Thinking along convention lines, the East Rand will be hosting the 2019 Convention. I would like to suggest that we make an early start by electing the Committee by the end of the year and get the ball rolling. I would also like to thank Suben, Sandil, and Koos for the hard work and dedication they put into spreading the message to the still suffering in their respective sub-forums. Thanks to Suben for getting another meeting started in Tembisa. Well done. The East Rand Rally is around the corner. Fellow Eastranders please assist the Inter group committee in any way you can to make this event a memorable one. Spread the message to those in your community to attend, after all, Rallies are meant to be public information channels for the still suffering. Yours in the fellowship Vincent N. 5 DELEGATE S REPORT AND COMMUNICATION Suben 1. Social workers, doctors, teachers, psychologists, care workers, etc. We need to identify at least 2 candidates please. We have requested and approved 10 Copies of AA in Prisons to be used to supplement the 10 Big Books that was approved at last Area meeting for prisons. Conference is requested to approve that GSO conduct service arms workshops for attendance by local areas and that the material used then be sent to all areas for them to conduct their own workshops. - Proposal not accepted. GSO can send material to areas to conduct their own workshops, but cannot host the workshops as its stature is national and not regional; on this basis it cannot be seen to be favouring areas which have easier access by virtue of geographical location. 8.
