ITEM # MINUTE OWNER

1. OPENING AND WELCOME Vincent welcomed the committee members and opened the meeting with the Serenity Prayer. Sandil read the 12 Traditions. 2. CONFIRMATION OF PREVIOUS MINUTES May minutes were confirmed by Mike and seconded by Neil. 3. MATTERS ARRISING FROM THE PREVIOUS MINUTES Confirm with Sandil that he submitted C.V. as requested by GSO for his nomination for World Delegate. However, GSO did not receive this . Sandil resent and this one was received. Suben requests that Area office updates the Procedure document with regard to money split as agreed to at April meeting. This has not been finalised. 4. VACANCIES AND APPOINTMENTS Positions still vacant: General Service Office Conference Co-ordinator. National Webmaster IT Administrator Teresa was requested to ask Joe to write up short portfolio s for these positions and they will then be advertised in the Eastrander and East Rand Area website. East Rand Area Literature Representative. Treatment Facilities Members are also requested to advertise service positions at their groups for both GSO and East Rand Area. 5. CHAIRPERSON S REPORT SINCE THE PREVIOUS MEETING Another month has flown by. Literature sales for the month of May has been slow probably as a result of the onset of winter with fewer new members joining. No literature was purchased in the month due to high stock holding, as a result of us taking advantage of lower prices prior to GSO s literature price increase. In line with step 12, trying to pass the message to the still suffering alcoholic, I would like to suggest that each group in the East Rand Area adopt a hospital or Clinic in the area where the group is situated. This would entail making contact with the authorities at those institutions with a view to 12 stepping/sharing with patients identified by the professionals as possible alcoholics. Perhaps we could even keep records of the number of patients attended to by group and probably what success we achieve. I was privileged to share at the Kempton Park group at AA s 80th Birthday celebration. It was a wonderful meeting in candle light (thanks to Eskom). Thanks to the group for hosting this celebration. On a sad note I would on behalf of the East Rand Area convey our condolences to Suben and his family on the passing away of his mom. Yours in the fellowship Vince N Chairperson Vincent Mike Neil Sandil Suben Vincent 6. DELEGATE S REPORT AND COMMUNICATION FROM GSO Suben

In East Rand Area: We celebrated 80 years of recovery strength and hope at Kempton Park on June 10 From GSO and other Areas: The following items was ed to our Area office, and is available from our Area office or the national website once logged in. Areas and GSO minutes of meetings, Board meeting minutes. Conference updated us on work being done in AA nationally, successful projects include the social worker project being run by the national PIC committee, a new locally produced book on shares from South Africans, like the grapevine books, available soon, a new group Handbook is available from GSO, all groups are encouraged to purchase one, the literature committee is considering changing the name of the Regmaker, what do our groups think? Sales of Regmaker is poor, how could we boost sales? Importance of referencing the Service Manual in our Service activities was highlighted, we used the third legacy procedure to elect the new world service delegate John L, alternate Ben P. I was elected Delegate Chair for next conference. AA in SA newsletter from GSO was ed to our groups An updated national group directory was ed out, please ensure your groups contact details are up to date GSO vacancies include National webmaster and IT administrator Convention 2016 is in Cape Town, first newsletter was ed out George Forum, 7-9 August 2015 Suben will send information on Social Workers (Non-Alcoholics) Workshops. 7. John L has been voted in as our new World Service Delegate. Conference Board Meeting The business of 13 stepping was one of the subjects discussed. As a whole, AA cannot resolve issues revolving around it. However, groups should try to deal with these individuals and failing that discuss the issue with their area delegate. 8. SECRETARY S REPORT Please send special service reports timeously to Teresa and CC Larry or vice-versa. This will help with sending the minutes out on time. My term as East Rand Area secretary is up in October this year. I will be unable to continue this duty after this date. Please advertise this position in your groups. 2 years of Sobriety Computer Literacy Ability to capture essentials. For more info - see page 18 in the Service Manual Women s Day is on Saturday 9 th August. The East Rand Area Assembly will be held the following weekend Rod Teresa

9. TREASURER S REPORT The Report was discussed. Literature sales are slow but no new stock has been bought. Secretary s note: No ed report received. 10. REPORTS FROM OFFICE Joe GSO Chair would like to know if the East Rand as well as the North would like to participate in a Workshop on Services held at Wedge Garden in November. The venue is ideally placed for attendance of all districts. This will help not to repeat the workshop again. I had a call from a AA member living in Eddie House. She was moving to a new retirement home and wanted to donate all her AA literature to the office. I called on her and collected the literature which consisted of old editions of AA literature. Because Barbara is physically disabled she is unable to attend meetings. She has been a member of Alco-Solo for years. Because of the Post Office Strike she has received no mail for almost a year. Barbara phone number is Please phone or visit her if you have time. I have promised to give some old Regmakers which means that I will see her again. The East Rand Bank Account has again been debited with the amount of R59.99 incorrectly. This info was relayed to our treasurer who went to the bank to rectify this. This looks like the same scam that was used on our account last year. Tony from the Springs group would like to take up the offer to host the Big Book meetings run by Frank. Would Teresa please arrange this or supply Franks information. PIC request from McCain s all info passed on to Malcolm. A new group was started on the 5th June 2015 Meeting date Fridays. Venue C T C church Cnr Lancaster and Dagenham Rd, Benoni South. Time 7 pm Contact Tony Looking forward to lots of visits from all. Please inform your members. List of books required for the Primrose Rally received This amounts to about R Lennie to run the Book table. The office will supply the bulk of the stock and the items we do not have will be ordered from GSO to be returned for credit after the Rally. The Office Wednesday meeting seems to be going well. Attendance 6-7 seems to be steady with the bulk of members being under 25 years of age. Would like to have visits from older members that are willing to share. Request for PIC at Kasi Career Expo. Tony Larry N.B. I will be available at the office 1 hour before the start of all meetings for literature sales and any other office related business. This will be for the convenience of GSR S that are unable to come into the office in the week. NEWS FROM THE HIGHVELD GROUP. Some news from us in the Far East! We re doing well, got some new faces who have stayed; Cobus 9 months; Gavin is our local joker; Danie is strong; Yolanda is a joy to have; John B celebrated his 43rd on 13th March. We have put an advert in the local rag and expecting the masses to join. We are happily sober and all is well. Contact person George

Unfortunately she will be on leave for a week and I can only make a appointment when she is back after the 6th of July. I do realise that this prison does not fall in the east rand but surely we have to grab this opportunity. I am also convinced that this will be a good learning curve and with the help of this social worker many other doors will for A.A.
