1 Sun Valley Day of Service (Feb 2019) Registration Information Thank you for your desire to be the hands and feet of Jesus and serve our community neighbors and friends. We have a variety of service projects to meet the need of various people in our church. Several are kid friendly! Please note that some projects require you to provide a donation or bring tools/supplies to accomplish the project. So, read through the project information before registering. Please Select an opportunity AZCEND Cleaning their food bank crates that they use to store food. All ages welcome Location: 345 S. California St, Chandler AZ Volunteers Needs to Bring: Wear closed toe shoes & comfortable clothes. There is chance of getting wet because of the project. AZCEND has been in the Chandler area since 1966 and serves primarily the Southeast Valley. With offices in Chandler and GIlbert, they offer 5 core programs including the Food Bank, Family Resource Center, Seniors Centers, I-HELP, and Rent and Utility Assistance. With the help of donors, grants, and volunteers, AZCEND wouldn't be able to do the work it does with out the help of generous people! MidWest Food Bank Helping repackage food from bulk to individual sizes. Liability release need to be signed. Location: 725 E. Baseline Rd, Gilbert AZ Max Volunteers: 60 Volunteers Needs to Bring: N/A As a faith-based organization, it is the mission of Midwest Food Bank to share the love of Christ by alleviating hunger and malnutrition locally and throughout the world and providing disaster relief; all without discrimination. Our vision is to faithfully continue to help those in need by sharing the blessings. Save the Family Packing snack bags & hygiene bags. Snack Bags: decorate brown paper bags, fill them with snacks like chips, cheese, peanut butter crackers, granola bars, beef jerky, fruit snacks, etc. Hygiene Kits: fill a ziploc bag full of shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc. Feb 16 th, 9-11:30am Location: Gilbert Campus - Building B Auditorium deliver bags & kits to Save the Family (125 E. University Drive, Mesa AZ) Max Volunteers: 75 Volunteers Needs to Bring: chips bags, cheese, peanut butter crackers, granola bars, beef jerky, fruit snacks, shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrush. You will be sent a link before the project to sign up for the items that you will be bringing. Save the Family equips families to address poverty, overcome homelessness and achieve self-sufficiency.
2 Paz de Cristo Helping to weed their garden and power wash their outdoor dining area. 12+ (kids need to be accompanied by 2 adults) Location: 424 W. Broadway Rd, Mesa AZ Max Volunteers: 8 Volunteers Needs to Bring: working/gardening gloves At Paz de Cristo, we help people struggling with hunger, poverty and homelessness in the Phoenix East Valley. It all starts with a nutritious meal, a hot shower and clean clothes. Basic needs for food, water, hygiene and clothing are met first. Then one-on-one coaching and assistance help people get jobs, become independent and achieve self-sufficiency. We give people a hand so that they can get back on their feet. We Feed, Clothe and Empower. Boys & Girls Club of Gilbert Helping clean and organize gym storage, arranging the top of the stage, arrange the art room, learning center and game room. Location: 44 N. Oak Street, Gilbert AZ Max Volunteers: 25 Volunteers Needs to Bring: Cleaning Supplies: Mops, spic and span, rags, and brooms. You will be sent a link before the project to sign up for the items that you will be bringing. We are a community-based, character building, youth development organization. We deliver the highest quality programs and provide opportunities to assist youth and teens in developing their self esteem, values and skills in a safe and fun environment. Our professionals guide members through personal, educational and social development to realize their full potential and become positive, value-oriented and productive citizens. Open Arms Care Center Helping to sort food that has been donated. 10+ Location: 522 N Gilbert Rd #103, Gilbert AZ Max Volunteers: 8 Volunteers Needs to Bring: Wear closed toe shoes. We help Gilbert families in need by giving them food and clothing on a monthly basis. Foster Arizona: Project 1 Volunteers would be engaged in paint prep, painting, yard work, power washing, and other projects geared at getting new office up and running. 13+ Location: 525 E Broadway, Mesa Max Volunteers: 40 Volunteers Needs to Bring: Work gloves and clothes that can be messy would be great -may want to wear closed toed shoes Foster Arizona is a non-profit public charity focused on educating, encouraging, and empowering Arizonans to positively impact the lives of kids in foster care. Our vision is
3 that every child in Arizona s foster care system will be empowered, supported, and have the opportunity to enrich their lives through intentional community connections. Foster Arizona: Project 2 Volunteers would be engaged in sorting and boxing up storage unit to bring to Foster Arizona Office for storage Location: 275 E Ocotillo Rd., Chandler AZ Max Volunteers: 10 Volunteers Needs to Bring: Wear clothes that can get dirty. Foster Arizona is a non-profit public charity focused on educating, encouraging, and empowering Arizonans to positively impact the lives of kids in foster care. Our vision is that every child in Arizona s foster care system will be empowered, supported, and have the opportunity to enrich their lives through intentional community connections. SV Family: Project 1 Taping and painting the interior of their home. Location: 630 S. Banning, Mesa AZ Max Volunteers: 8 Volunteers Needs to Bring: Painting Tools: paint brushes, paint pans, paint roller, ladders, etc. You will be sent a link before the project to sign up for the items that you will be bringing. Sun Valley Foster family SV Family: Project 2 Yard work (to include putting a shed together), cutting some carpet, disconnecting some badets in the bathroom Location: 860 N. McQueen, #1198, Chandler, AZ Max Volunteers: 4 Volunteers Needs to Bring: Tools to complete project and working gloves. Sun Valley Single parent family Christian Family Care Family: Project 1 Yard Maintenance: weed pulling, possible bush removal, trim mini palm trees Location: 2324 W. Whiteley, Apache Junction AZ (back house of property) Max Volunteers: 4 Volunteers Needs to Bring: Tools (including weed wacker, shovel, rakes) to complete project and working gloves. This family went from 0 to 4 children within months in order to take in their relative s kids, they have sacrificed so much to make sure these young children have a safe place to call home. Hospice of the Valley: Lund Home
4 Baking goodies and treats for families of patients at their kitchen. Location: 1982 E Woodside Ct, Gilbert, AZ Max Volunteers: 10 Volunteers Needs to Bring: Ingredients for baking. And maybe the bakingware for them as well. You will be sent a link before the project to sign up for the items that you will be bringing. Hospice of the Valley walks beside you on this journey with your loved one from the early stages of care to hospice to grief counseling. We focus on your family. It s the heart of what we do. South Valley Junior High Powerwash couryard/ramada, spray paint ramada tables, deep clean kitchen/fax room including floors, mop/wax cafeteria floors, carpet clean the band rooms, deep clean the 8 bathrooms. Location: 2034 S Lindsay Rd, Gilbert, AZ Max Volunteers: 60 Volunteers Needs to Bring: hoses, powerwashers, black spray paint, plastic drop cloths, cleaner, rags/sponges, mops, mopping solution, carpet cleaner with solution, toilet scrubbers and cleaning solution. You will be sent a link before the project to sign up for the items that you will be bringing. Gilbert Junior High House of Refuge Helping with sorting of canned/dry food, sorting, folding, & hanging clothing, as well as daily activities like interacting with donors assisting with unloading & processing donations. 12+ Location: 6858 E. Ursula Ave, Mesa AZ (Parking is available in a lot on the corner of Ursula & Ulysses) Max Volunteers: 5 Volunteers Needs to Bring: Wear closed toe shoes and clothes that can get dirty. House of Refuge is a faith-based, non-profit 501(c)(3) that provides supportive services and transitional housing to homeless families. House of Refuge is a work program with case management services, employment support and transitional housing. Gilbert High School Softball field maintenance: painting, hanging banners, preparation of field, general maintenance. Feb 16 th, 9-11:30am Location: 1101 E. Elliott Rd, Gilbert AZ (Enter on lakeview drive, all the way to the end) Volunteers Needs to Bring: working gloves & clothing Gilbert High School
5 Feed My Starving Children Hand-pack rice, soy, dried vegetables and a nutritionally complete blend of vitamins and minerals into bags which are then sealed, boxed, placed on pallets and shipped to our incredible partners working hard to reach the neediest children around the world. Feb 15 th, 3:30-5:30pm 5+, every child under 18 have to be accompanied by 1 adult Location: 1345 S. Alma School Rd, Mesa AZ Volunteers Needs to Bring: They ask volunteers to make a donation but is not required. No jewelry allowed to worn during volunteering (FDA rules). As a Christian non-profit organization, Feed My Starving Children is called to feed God s starving children hungry in body and spirit. Christian Family Care Thrift Store Help with sorting, pricing and stocking of donations. Help in other capacities as needed. 16+ Location: 3121 E. Greenway Road, Phoenix AZ Max Volunteers: 10 Volunteers Needs to Bring: N/A Christian Family Care s Thrift Stores help fund their adoption, foster care, and counseling programs. Burk Elementary School: Project 1 Paint a wall mural in the library. Looking for a people who are artistic. Location: 545 N Burk St, Gilbert, AZ Max Volunteers: 4 Volunteers Needs to Bring: Paint brushes and paint containers. Gilbert Elementary School Burk Elementary School: Project 2 Paint kindness rocks that will be placed at the front of their school, plant flowers in their planter and clean up their community garden (weeding, etc). 9+ Location: 545 N Burk St, Gilbert, AZ Max Volunteers: 20 Volunteers Needs to Bring: Sharpies, garden gloves, planting tools. Gilbert Elementary School Habitat for Humanity Working on a build site doing t ouch up and punch list items before house is completed: hanging light fixtures, painting, little landscaping, etc. Feb 16 th, 7:30am-1pm 16+ Location: 3702 E. Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit housing organization working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and in approximately 70 countries. Habitat s vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Your Own Project Do you have a neighbor who could use some help with yard clean-up or house painting?
