1 ASSISTANCE LEAGUE OF POMONA VALLEY Today s Volunteers Meeting the Needs of Tomorrow DECEMBER BOARD OF DIRECTORS President Cathy Harden 1 st VP Membership Kathee Elliott Corresponding Secretary 2 nd VP Philanthropies René Sippel Public Relations 3 rd VP Resource Development Lynne Kirchhoff Strategic Planning Treasurer Jessica Ortega Chapter Liaison Recording Secretary Cathy Rockwell Maria Craig Carol Holmes Sharon Goodrich Kathy Jarvis PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Happy Thanksgiving! It hardly seems possible that we are once again in the holiday season. Planning menus, decorating the table, determining wine consumption, and finally bravely tackling the grocery store (of course that in itself is an adventure because of all the dwindling stores ). I hope your turkey is beautiful, that the mashed potatoes are not runny, the green bean casserole has enough flavor and that your stuffing is spectacular. Please remember to kiss the cook (if it's not you) and keep her or his glass full. May your day be blessed with family and friends and filled with laughter and wonderful memories. Just a reminder that there is no December meeting. We have a wonderful Christmas party planned at Carol and Dwight Holmes on December 6 th at 5:30 pm. Please don't forget to RSVP yes or no so she has an accurate account of who will be attending. Act of Giving is on Friday, December 11 th and if you have never been able to work an Operation School Bell Delivery before this is definitely the one you want to try. The joy and gratitude is so profound and endearing that I encourage all of you to come even if it's for only an hour. Trust me when I say it will positively get you into the spirit of the season and it is the best gift you can give yourself. Please contact Stephanie or Sally if you are able to work. ~ Cathy Harden Page 1
2 MEMBERSHIP Ladies and Gents...TWO important things from Membership this month! 1) Please remember to RSVP to Carol Holmes that you are attending the ALPV Annual Holiday Party at her house on Sunday, December 6 th. Don't forget your appetizer or dessert and your gift for the exchange. 2) Volunteer Hours Worksheet needs to be turned in to me at the January meeting. These hours are important in both grant and report writing and are needed by Resource Development in January. Bring the worksheet to the meeting or me the hours if you will not be attending the meeting. It is important that we have an accurate accounting of hours spent on fundraising particularly at this time and it is time to count and report those countless hours that you have spent in raising funds for our many and soooo important philanthropies. Thanks in advance. ~Kathee Elliott Katheeelliott@aol.com AUXILIARY Our meeting will be Wednesday, December 2 nd at 11:00 am at the home of Nancy Laird, 9865 Cinch Ring Lane, Rancho Cugamonga. Please note there will be no meeting in January. The next meeting will be February 3 rd, hosted by Susan Brinkama. Details to follow. December Birthdays 1 st Maria Craig 9 th Lupe Barker 28 th Lisa Frazier DENTAL CENTER This is the wonderful florist that donated all the beautiful centerpieces for the tea. If you are in need of a florist please consider giving her a call. Dental Center was open 6 days in November. They served 30 patients with 13 being new patients for a total of 80 treatments. Please note the Dental Center will be closed for Thanksgiving from November 18 th to December 1 st. ~ Jane Hubbard, Carole Lyles and René Sippel STRATEGIC PLANNING Included in this Newsletter is a copy of the proposed Strategic Plan approved by AL Pomona Valley Board of Directors on November 19, Please review the Mission, Vision, Values, Goals and Strategies prior to our next meeting on January 5, Print and bring a copy for discussion purposes. 4 RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT We had a very productive Festive Fall Tea wrap up meeting and came away with some constructive ideas and suggestions to make next year's tea even better. The Board feels strongly that our guests have been very clear that they expect a Fall 2016 tea. In order to be prepared we will need more tea cups and saucers, tea pots, glass plates and cups and sets of stainless flatware to accommodate what is sure to be an even larger crowd. Since our Padua Hills evening event is on Thursday, September 29, 2016, we are looking at November dates for our tea--either Sunday, November 6, 2016 or Sunday, November 13, Please look at your calendar and come to the January regular meeting prepared to choose a date and commit your help to create another successful Fall Tea. The Padua Hills event is an exciting blank palette available to us to create a truly exciting and memorable evening which will earn needed funds for our organization. We know we have the beautiful venue and great music. We still need to put our heads together to plan the details for a "Wow"- worthy evening. Please bring your ideas to a planning meeting at the Chapter House on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Some of our members will be working and unable to attend a daytime meeting----i invite anyone unable to attend to please share your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions with me via phone call or so that I can include your input in this kick-off meeting. Plans for our annual golf tournament are already well underway!! Our focus this year is in obtaining a wealth of underwriters. Please consider whom you might know who would appreciate having their business advertised during our golf tournament by underwriting a portion of the day. It's truly a Win-Win!! To get this party started, we extend an invitation (or a very friendly challenge) to our Auxiliary, Associate and Life Members. Any one of you who sign an underwriter for the golf tournament will be entered into a drawing to win a $100 Macy's gift card. Our underwriting opportunities will be distributed in February---start thinking (CONTINUED, NEXT COLUMN) NOW about who you might contact!!! Also thinking ahead, since this is the season of Black Friday Deals and super bargains, we have listed possible opportunity basket items for you to keep in mind as you shop. Again, our Auxiliary, Associate and Life Members are most welcome to contribute. Won't Michelle be proud of us if she receives great stuff in January!!! Remember---THINK GOLF!!!!!!!!!!! We are working on "Open Your Heart" (replacing "Helping Hands") direct mail solicitation invitations and hope to have them ready for Board approval at the December Board meeting. Please bring any new names and addresses to the January meeting so Lisa can include them in our mailing list. We will mail the solicitations in January. As we approach Thanksgiving and Christmas, please know that I wish you all a wonderful Holiday Season spent creating wonderful memories with those you love. ~Lynne Kirchhoff Below is a long alphabetical wish list of ideas for the Door Prizes and Live Auction items that we would love to have donated: Amazon Fire HD 6 Tablet Amusement Park Tickets Apple ipad Mini Apple ipod Nano or Shuffle Backyard BBQ Items for the Backyard Chef Beats by Dre Headphones Blue Ray DVD Player Car Care Basket Chef for a Night Volunteer Your Culinary Skills for a Dinner Party of 4 Chocolate Lover Gift Basket Gift Certificates, Chocolate Molds with Melting Machine Chromecast Citizen s Business Bank Arena Concert Tickets Couch Potato Basket Movies, Snacks, Hi-Tech Remote Control Croslet Turntable with Built-In Speakers Digital Picture Frames Donation of a Vacation Home for Weekend/Week (CONTINUED, NEXT PAGE) Page 4
