1 Weekly Ringer 700 Balearic Road Hot Springs Village AR cothumc.com Web: September 3, 2017 Undie Sunday is September 10 This is NOT an ordinary clothing drive Children of all ages in our area lack many of the basics of underwear, socks, "hoodies" and light jackets. Jessieville, Fountain Lake, and Mountain Pine schools, Ouachita Children s Center, Safe Haven, and Faith Fellowship Food Pantry will all receive items from Christ of the Hills. Please be mindful of this request when you re out and about shopping. Think of your own grandchildren when you purchase new items of girls' panties and boys' boxer shorts, to "hoodies," light jackets, and socks, all sizes from girls and boys size 4 to women s and men s size large for kids who suffer hardships in this difficult economic time. If you will be out of town on Undie Sunday, you may bring your purchases to the church office any time before September 10. Please note: sweat pants and sweat shirts are not on the shopping list at this time. Added items are "hoodies," light jackets and boys' boxer shorts, If you would like to donate to help the people affected by Hurricane Harvey, you can do so by going to the UMC website, Click on the donation button and it will give you options of where your money will go. There's an option for US Disaster Response and also an option for Relief Supply Kits. Both of those options will help the people in these areas get what they need. Thank you for caring. UMC spends 100 % of designated donations on the projects donors specify. When UMC donors give their time, money, and supplies, they join UMC as the hands and feet of Christ. Helpers are needed to collect, sort, bag and tag items donated. A sign-up sheet is in the Information Center. VILLAGE WALK F CANCER RESEARCH Applications are available in the Information Center for the 16th Village Walk for Cancer Research on September 30th or register online at giving.uams.edu/walkforcancerhsv Meeting a practical need in our community The office will be closed Monday, September 4th for Labor Day. 2 The Upper Room Daily Devotional is now available in large print in the Information Center on an experimental basis. Cost of each copy is $1.00. SEPTEMBER FOOD PANTRY Faith Fellowship Please leave food in the baskets by the front door or the Fellowship Hall Door. If you wish, monetary donations are always accepted. Put your donation in the offering envelope in the pew and label it Food Pantry An Opportunity to REACH OUT and lift your spirits!! Crimson Quartet CD Available Crimson Quartet, comprised of Gary Griggs, Daryl Taylor, Larry Dodson and Kenny McKay, have made a CD of their favorite songs. These CDs are now available for sale at $10 each, $25 for 3 and $75 for 10. The net proceeds from the sale will go to the COH Music Ministry. The CDs will be available in Fellowship for the next few Sundays between services or in the office during the week. United Methodist Women General Meeting September 11 10:00 AM Fellowship Hall Coffee and snacks furnished by Charity Circle Guest Speaker Sonya Murphy, CEO of Camp Aldersgate, a mission of UMW worldwide, will give an informative talk about Camp Aldersgate, their programs, needs, and upcoming Fish Fry event. After her talk we will hold our meeting. United Methodist Women is open to all women, regardless of church affiliation. Christ of the Hills United Methodist Women s unit currently has 6 sub-groups, or circles and a reading program. If you are new to Christ of the Hills and UMW, this is a great opportunity to find out more about this community of women which will celebrate its founding 150 years ago in Bishop Gary Mueller invites you to join him for a Laity Coffee Bishop Gary Mueller extends a special invitation to Lay Leaders, Lay Members to Annual Conference, Finance, Trustee, SPRC, Administrative Chairs and anyone who might be interested in joining him for a Laity Coffee. The laity coffee will be held on Sunday, September 10 at 2:30 p.m. at Arkadelphia First UMC and should last around an hour and fifteen minutes. Bishop Mueller will spend a few minutes sharing information about vital disciples, the Vital initiative that began at the 2017 Annual Conference and the Commission on The Way Forward. There will also be a time for him to hear your questions and comments.

4 UMM BREAKFAST 7:30 AM FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 8 Guest Speaker COH Member Doug Klobe Before retirement, Doug was an engineer in the Defense Computer Industry, taught Nuclear Weapons for the US Army, and owned and operated a Direct Mail Agency in Minnesota for 25 years. After being retired for all of 2 years, he went to work for the Ouachita National Forest Service. Doug will be presenting Working With Wildfire Warriors from Idaho to Alabama to Arkansas... the Enemy and the Men and Women on the Firelines. United Methodist Women Meetings This Week: Naomi Circle Wednesday, September 6 9:30 AM Classroom 1 Joined August 20 in the 10:10 Service: Bill and Kay Butterworth 22 Poema Lane Care Zone 22 Faith & Fellowship (Adult) Sunday school class meets each Sunday from 8:50 AM until 9:50 AM in Rooms 2 & 3. Our purpose is to provide opportunity for developing Christian Fellowship and strengthening our Faith through social interaction and study of the Bible Scriptures. We use the Journey Through the Bible series as the basis of our Scripture studies led by some our class members. Currently, we are studying the books of James, 1 & 2 Peter, 1, 2 & 3 John, and Jude. Our members plan fellowship events to encourage all to engage in activities including dinners, tours, and events during the year. We welcome all to our class and appreciate the opportunity to enjoy each other s participation in our efforts to grow in our understanding of our Christian knowledge and faith. 5 A Different Kind of School Supply Drive For many years we have collected school supplies to send to UMC Sager Brown in Baldwin, Louisiana. This year, because our local school needs are so great, the UMW felt we should donate locally. After looking at the school supply lists and talking to the 3 school districts, (Fountain Lake, Jessieville & Mountain Pine), we discovered their greatest needs were not what we expected. They all receive a large quantity of the usual school supplies from the Stuff the Bus program, but the items listed below are always in short supply and are a year-long necessity. From now until Sunday, September 24 we will be collecting these items to give to the schools. Just bring them by the office and they will be distributed among the 3 schools. As always, thank you for your generosity. Members and guests are welcome to begin arriving at 5 PM to socialize and the meal will be served at 6 PM. Earl Davis and his crew will cook hamburgers and hot dogs. The COH Social Committee will furnish buns and the "fixins" for the burgers and 'dogs' and also plates, napkins, drinking cups and tableware. Iced tea and water will also be furnished. Members should bring side dishes - baked beans, potato casseroles, slaws, salads, etc. and DESSERTS. So that COH can provide adequate meats and supplies, please submit a yellow dinner reservation form for September 10 or sign up at the RESERVATION TABLE in Fellowship Hall between services on August 20, 29 or September 3.
