2 ABOUT ORTHOPAEDIC INSTITUTE FOR CHILDREN Orthopædic Institute for Children (OIC) was founded in 1911 as Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital. Focused solely on musculoskeletal conditions in children, OIC provides 60,000 patient visits each year. In alliance with UCLA Health and with the support of the OIC Foundation, OIC advances pediatric orthopaedics worldwide through outstanding patient care, medical education and research. For more information, visit MISSION The mission of Orthopaedic Institute for Children (OIC) is to provide outstanding care for patients with musculoskeletal disorders and through the support of the Orthopaedic Foundation, to provide care for children regardless of ability to pay and to advance care worldwide for all musculoskeletal patients through medical education and scientific research. VISION Orthopaedic Institute for Children, in partnership with UCLA Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, will become the preeminent provider of pediatric orthopaedic care, education and research. AT A GLANCE Since Orthopaedic Institute for Children s founding in 1911, over two million patients have been treated. More than 100,000 international children from Mexico and other countries have been treated through OIC's International Children's Program since Through OIC's alliance with UCLA, the new Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital opened in 2012, bringing expanded programs to children. In 2007 the Orthopaedic Hospital Research Center opened on the UCLA Westwood campus, which created the largest coordinated orthopaedic research effort in the USA. 4 LEADERSHIP Anthony Scaduto Dr. Anthony Scaduto is President and Chief Executive Officer at Orthopaedic Institute for Children (OIC) and the Chief of Pediatric Orthopaedics at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital. He joined OIC in January 2009 as the Lowman Professor of Pediatric Orthopaedics, Medical Director, Fellowship Director, and Chief of Staff, and continues in those roles today. He provides specialized orthopaedic care for pediatric patients at the downtown Los Angeles campus, the Luskin Children's Clinic in Santa Monica, and the Valley Orthopaedic Clinic in Calexico. Dr. Scaduto received his bachelor's and medical degrees from UCLA and completed his pediatric orthopaedic fellowship at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas. Dr. Scaduto previously held academic appointments at Shriner's Hospital for Children in Los Angeles and Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Michael Sullivan Mr. Sullivan is Vice President/Chief Philanthropy Officer at Orthopaedic Institute for Children. He has an impressive record of fundraising for healthcare institutions in academic environments. Previously, as Chief Development Officer, he raised nearly $100 million at two specialty institutes affiliated with Harvard Medical School: Joslin Diabetes Center and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. He also developed innovative brand-building campaigns for these institutes and is experienced in all aspects of fundraising including major naming donations, capital campaigns, corporate and celebrity sponsorship and targeted campaigns for faculty recruitment and research. He is experienced working with hospital boards and support groups and stewarding high profile donors with a variety of events and programs including a donor concierge service. Page Three

5 THE POSITION The Director, Development Westside reports to the Vice President, Foundation / Chief Philanthropy Officer and is responsible for managing relationships and securing support from Westside and Research donors who are capable of making gifts of $10,000 or more, assisting with development and management of OIC s fundraising efforts and serving as a member of the Foundation s team. The Director, Development OIC Westside & OIC Research will have primary responsibility for recruiting, hiring, developing, implementing and supervising the Assistant Director, Community Relations OIC Westside and OIC Research as well as oversee management of the concierge program, donor cultivation and stewardship events. Duties and Responsibilities Works with board members, key volunteers and staff to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects who have the potential to give major, annual, campaign and planned gifts to OIC, with an annual revenue goal for operations and strategic priorities. Assists the Vice President, Foundation/Chief Philanthropy Officer in planning and administration of fundraising strategy and development and implementation of OIC s fundraising programs and systems with a Westside and Research focus. Develops and expands existing Concierge Program across all locations. Supervises writing proposals for both unrestricted operating revenue and restricted projects and provides timely and accurate reports for all grant funded projects. Supervises all arrangements for donor cultivation and stewardship events, meetings and projects associated with OIC fundraising efforts on the Westside and Research Center. Works with the Senior Director of Operations, Foundation to manage prospect review and strategy discussions with members of the major gift team. Places a high priority on serving internal and external contacts in a timely, courteous manner, following up until needs are met. Composes and prepares routine correspondence and presentations, including letters and various types of documents. Attends select meetings as needed and conducts follow-up as appropriate and directed. Manages portfolio, calendar maintenance, administrative duties and other tasks as assigned. Uses the Foundation database to research donors and their gift histories. Page Four

6 Performance Standards and Success Indicators Demonstrates skills in strategic fundraising and non-profit leadership. Displays strong oral and written communication skills (with internal OIC team and external OIC constituents and vendors) in the coordination of major gifts events, donor communication and administrative management tasks. Initially focuses 80% of time on Westside and 20% on Research development. Exhibits strong organizational and problem solving skills with attention to detail and disciplined follow-through to complete assigned tasks and duties within specified deadlines. Independently discerns work priorities, and willing to work evenings/weekends as needed and travels to multiple OIC site locations, in the performance of job functions. Possesses excellent interpersonal communication skills, provides outstanding customer service, works well and is a strong contributor in a team environment. Qualifications Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive leadership experience in a medical, educational or non-profit institution, ideally with foundation and /or research development experience. Highly entrepreneurial and collaborative. Five to seven years of fundraising experience at a senior level, with demonstrated record of success with major donors. Ideally, has knowledge and/or experience with Legacy giving and VIP or Concierge program. Recognized achievements in the success of significant fundraising initiatives, building relationships with major donors (Moves Management) and the creation of a comprehensive fundraising program. Bachelor s degree required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Power Point, Microsoft Publisher and Adobe Acrobat required. Working knowledge of Raiser s Edge preferred. Written and verbal fluency in English (required) and also in Spanish (preferred). Page Five
