D., Coordinator of Clincal Pharmacy of St. Cloud Hospital Breastfeeding and Medications power point presentation: ents/bfc_mtgs/1301cmbfcinfo.pdf Pharmacists fall into 2 groups, hospital and community are different interests depending on where they are working so have different needs. Required to have 30 hours of CE s every 2 years. Have online live meetings as an option for some continuing education. More reactive than proactive in supporting breastfeeding wait for people to come and ask questions of them, support the experts. 5 Goals KH Goals of the meeting are to network and share
2 information on what we can do and how we can coordinate breastfeeding efforts. New Severe weather policy-- If St. Cloud school district 741 is closed due to weather, the coalition meeting is cancelled. MN BF Coalition MC Breastfeeding Summit May 2013 more hospital based mostly adistrators and nursing supervisors educating them on bf. MBC will have meeting next Tuesday and will get more info on it then. Annual Minnesota Breastfeeding Teleconference Spring No final date yet as working on summit first usually send out info 6 weeks before so can get it on your calendar. Will be more of an outline with questions--more interactive like an open forum. We can typically have 2 phone lines for our coalition. Notify Dr. Pam Heggie (phegie1@fairview.org )if you have things to add to the list for hospital contacts. 3 1.65 pages/visit 50 seconds average time on site 72.5% new visitors 27.5% returning visitors 9 different countries 349 from USA 5-Canada 3-UK 2 each Greece and India 1 each from China, Hungary, Kenya, and New Zealand Community Collaborative EBP Project SD St. Cloud Hospital is part of it Terri McCaffrey is leading it (clinic nurse specialist). The literature search piece has been done; are now gathering data on what s available for women postpartum-2yrs pp as far as resources in the community trying to streamline so all info is the same. Also looking for gaps in bf support that need to be filled. St. Cloud hospital is working on the time from birth to going home as that is the area they have the most control over. 20 Breastfeeding Promotion Initiative Grant from UCare Anoka county SJ Susan from Anoka County collaborating as part of a UCare grant, led by Dakota county, baby friendly; working to develop bf resources--collaborating with ECHO on a breastfeeding video, especially for Somali population discussed making one similar to Injoy Better Breastfeeding looked at expanding to Arabic and Russian since already making up script and getting actors, etc probably will focus on Somali and Arabic as cost prohibitive to do more right now due to grant amount. ECHO thinking it is very doable, 1 month planning. Would be available as a hard copy DVD and on-line. 20 Breastfeeding Apps Free Health Care Providers Guide to Breastfeeding LactMed, Everyone search for apps that are reputable and reliable

Have to pay for full version Breastmilk counts journal for documenting and tips -Teaches how breastfeeding is good for moms and babies - Tips for breast feeding success - Breastfeeding Positions Chart - How to Latch - Find Lactation Help - Free License and Breastfeeding Laws Infant Risk App medications--always up to date Cost BF Management , Massachusetts bf coalition - five calculators, including two feeding calculators and a weight loss calculator - Medications- rating info from American Academy of Pediatrics and Thomas Hale s Medications and Mothers Milk - breastfeeding management for new mothers - evidence-based algorithm for evaluation and triage of breastfeeding in the first 2 weeks of life - answers to frequently asked questions BF Experience 2.99 for each book to put on the website. Will put up on website after next meeting. Agenda Items for April 29 th 2013 Meeting Round Table Tools, Apps, Workplace support for bf moms, follow-up to presentation. Wright County Maternal Child health nurse home visits, resource for other nurses, bf outreach at county fair Aug Benton County Nicole new to Public Health since July, going to be trained into WIC frustration with gap between hospital and home and stopping bf before can get out to see them or get ahold of them. Sally pro prenatal or postpartum risk over view built into initial WIC visit have them go see PHN after their appt., schedule them on certain days. Birthline--Are some guidelines but don t turn anyone away try to reserve services for those in need. Doula
5 services are free to clients can see women the day after they deliver at the hospital and assist with establishing bf. Can be from any county. Other pregnancy centers are around (Elk River--ABBA)but may not offer doula services. Through Stepping Stones program are doing a bf class for women 29 or more weeks pregnant. At 12 weeks doing a baby basics class. Looking at mentoring women one on one after they have their baby with meetings at Birthline if needing bf help. Amie owns a doula business and is the office manager at Birthline. Lois--volunteers at Birthline, charge nurse otherwise. Bf 5 of own kids. Promotes and supports bf with clients. BF class at weeks so catch women before they have baby. Stepping Stones helps them to be independent, help them make a financial plan earn while you learn program. Mille Lacs County Melissa on the steering committee for the Minnesota BF Coalition. Going to be part of UCare grant pilot project with Dakota county have BF Peer Counseling program, trying to get all BF Peer Counselors trained as CLC s or CLS s. Do a bf class but low participation so trying to get more info out and increase numbers. Following is the website for an example of a breastfeeding room in the workplace. You can also submit info about how your workplace, or another that you know of, provides reasonable break time and a private space that is not a bathroom for women to express milk at work. t.php#init Sherburne County Deb PHN, Maternal and Child Health, learning WIC. Wonder if there s a way to get a visit
6 scheduled for the first days women are home after delivery, as seems to be when many women have challenges with breastfeeding and quit? Maybe a PHN available at the hospital or referral from the hospital if they plan to bf? Kelly PHN in MCH, new to Public Health nursing, doing home visits, building caseload. Kristy steps to baby friendly Health Department. Applied for bf grant to send staff to bf trainings max of $2500. SHIP BF friendly childcare ECFE to set up bf room; also working with a home based child care provider, also another child care for bf support. BF trainings for childcare going on. Grow and Glow tools will bring DVD back to show how to use tools. CDC books on printing freeze here is the web address to print your own Your Guide to Breastfeeding. Kristy to bring Grow and Glow bf tools and DVD to next meeting. Sharon doing bf education and outreach for St. Cloud hospital. Coordinating training for staff have 6 instructors in bf program 1 bf class, offered 2x a month.
