2 Forthcoming Events for 2017 Navratri 2017 The Brahmin Society North London, Bardai Brahm Samaj London and UK Valam Brahmin Association have jointly arranged Navratri Festival. Venue: - JFS School. The Mall, Kenton HA3 9TE Time: - from 8 pm to 11 pm. Dates:- Friday 22nd September, Saturday 23rd September, Sunday 24th September, Wednesday 27th September, Thursday 28th September, Saturday 30th September and Friday 6th October (Sharad Poonam) Please see attached newsletter with full details including Fast Track ticket application procedure. Note- There will be no Membership Renewals at the Door. Priority for admission to Navratri Festival will be given to Members. You must renew your Membership unless you are a Life Member or have 10years membership. There will be No renewals at the door. Navratri Garba at BSNL Hall Friday 29th September 2017 from 8pm 11pm JFS School is NOT available on some days. Therefore we will be hosting garbas at BSNL House. Dates- Friday 29th September. Venue: - BSNL Community Centre 128 East Lane North Wembley Middlesex HA03NL Time:- from 8 pm to 11 pm There will be no entrance fee for this evening however donations will be gladly accepted. Music will be provided by our own in-house musicians. Members are welcome to bring Prasad, however please ensure all sweets etc. are approved as suitable for vegetarians so that they are appropriate for offering to organisers aware of/label items containing nuts to avoid risk of allergic reaction. 3 Memeberships This is a reminder to all of our annual and 5 year members that your membership will lapse on 31st August In this newsletter, we have enclosed a renewal form for you to use. At the last AGM, it was agreed that the membership fees can be increased. Please see below for a summary of the memberships that are available from 1st Sept 2017 onwards. Annual Memberships per person Family Memberships 8.00 per person. (This would only be applicable to members living in one household) 5 Year Memberships per person Life Memberships per person. We ran a special offer last year where we offered to our members who are 65 years old and above, a life membership in return for a minimum 101 donation to the building fund. This has now come to an end. Please renew in time for Navratri and allow plenty of time. If you haven't renewed before Navratri, you may have to pay non-member rates. Also, if the hall has reached full capacity, you may not be allowed into the hall. The membership Trustee will be at BSNL Hall on the following days prior to Navratri to renew memberships. Saturday 1st September 10.00am to noon Saturday 9th September 10.00am to noon Saturday 16th September 10.00am to noon Cards will be issued on the spot for all renewals. Classical Sangeet Lessons Classical Sangeet Vocal Classes are run by Padmaben Bhatt on Tuesdays between 6-8 pm. The students have successfully completed one term and have learnt Raag Bhopali and Yaman they enjoy with fun Sargams, how to sing various Bollywood songs as well Bhajans including Thumris. 4 Visit to The State Rooms at Buckingham Palace: 31 st August (Convenor Harshaben Bhatt) All tickets for this Trip have been sold. Hope members who purchased the tickets have a very enjoyable visit.. Zumba/Bollywood Classes We have started 2nd session of Bollyaeoribics on 17/9/2017 finishing on 25/9/2017, and it is a full class. However, due to holiday and wedding season we do have some gaps where we can accommodate ladies who wish to come for a trial/ad hoc session for 6 per session. Please note that bidding for Yajman will be on Thursday 28th September 2017 Atham day during Navaratri. Help us to get ready for the Havan: If you would like to donate any food items for Mahaprashad, please contact Kamal Purohit. Ladu making and the start of the Mahaprashad preparations will take place on Thursday 12th October 2017, at our BSNL Hall. If you can help us, please give your names to Kamal Purohit or Parul Jani, we can even help you get to us (contact Kamalben or Parulben). Lunch will be provided. If you would like to learn about and get involved with the actual setup of the Havan Kund, contact Kamal Purohit or Parul Jani. 5 Diwali in Trafalgar Square The Mayor of London and the Diwali in London (DIL) committee, of which BSNL are members, are proud to announce that this year s Diwali in Trafalgar Square will be celebrated on Sunday 15th October 2017 from 2 pm to 7 pm. This is a free event open to all. Come early and enjoy the day! If you would like to volunteer for the day, you are requested to contact Harshaben Trivedi on or Parul Jani on Volunteering duties include issuing passes, serving food and distributing prashad (to mention a few). Diwali Dhamaka 2017 This year, the BSNL Diwali Dhamaka programme will be held on Saturday 27th October. Venue: - Kenton Hall, Woodcock Hill, Kenton, Harrow HA3 0PQ Date: - Saturday 28th October Time:- from 7 pm to pm The evening will start with dinner, which will be followed by Music by Musical Stars, and Dancing by YOU! Tickets are Adults - 16 members 17 non-members 8 for Children (aged from 5 to 12). Tickets will be on sale during Navratri. Contact Harendra Raval on Bollywood Dhamal A Bolly Mood group (BSNLs in house Group) will present Bollywood Masala full of Hindi oldies, Ghazals and New songs and there will be professional musicians Any community member with good singing ability are welcome to join after successful audition and practice session. 6 The BSNL Subgroups BSNL ABHILASHA Abhilasha ladies enjoyed the midnight charity walk on Friday 30/6/2017. The 7 ladies Vandanaben Joshi, Ninaben Joshi, Madhuben Kothary, Jayshreeben Raval, Jyotiben Nathwani, Kusumben and Anjana Thaker collected 2,000 in total. Well done ladies. Ninaben and Kusumben completed 9 miles and the rest completed 5miles. Please see above details on Bollyaerobics another Abhilasha event. 7 BSNL egroup (elders group) It gives me great pleasure to report that our BSNL Elders Group has gone from strength to strength since we relaunched it 5 years ago. We have enjoyed a House Full situation over the last 4 years with members looking forward to every Tuesdy when we meet for bhajan, bhojan and manoranjan. Everyone has a great time. And there is Elders Yoga (eyoga) every Thursday to keep us all fit. And for those wishing to improve their singing skills we have Elders Sangeet (esangeet) class after our main egroup session every Tuesday. Apart from meeting at BSNL House every Tuesday, we have also taken our members on holidays abroad and also taken them on picnics every year. This year we took our members to Rickmansworth Aquadrome for a picnic. All had a super time. We have very good support from our members and our Board of Trustees which enables us to run our egroup as smoothly as it does. And while we give free service, membership and lunch to our members we have at the same time not been a burden to our main samaj but instead been a huge asset for BSNL by raising money for disaster relief funds, our new building fund, and saving any surplus money that we generate in our BSNL egroup account for future use as needed. Our elders are amongst friends every Tuesday when they attend our egroup sessions but it does not end there as most of them are also connected by WhatsApp groups where they exchange greetings daily and never feel lonely. My special appreciation for my egroup Subcommittee Members: Shashikantbhai Mehta (In Charge of Manoranjan), Sharadbhai Mehta (In Charge of Catering and Dining), Hema Mehta (In Charge of Membership), Nimuben Rawal (In Charge of eyoga), Bhartiben Vyas (In Charge of Feel Good Ethos) and Mukundbhai Mehta (Deputy Captain and In Charge of Special Events).
