We would like some input about what s working at GHAC; what could be improved. We would also like to learn about what you would like to see implemented and identify any opportunities. For more information please contact Shauna Leigh or Christa Bruyere, Health Educators. We wrapped up our golf this summer with our Annual Family Golf Day on September 9. The weather cooperated with us, it was a beautiful day for a golf scramble, followed by supper and great prizes! We had a huge turnout of 60 ppl, which was so nice to see all the families come out and enjoy! Big thank you to Heron Landing and Wasaw food services for helping us make this such a success!

6 Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder FASD/Child Nutrition Program Miigwech and thank you to all the people, agencies and communities that helped the FASD Week, September 9-14/18, become another success for our area & district. Here are a few pictures: We started the week off with the UNFC Breakfast, we had an FASD OTN event with Sioux Lookout, Red Lake, Kenora and Dryden. FASD workshops were at the schools of Rainy River High School, Big Grassy School, & Mine Center School. We also had an event for the Couchiching & Onigaming Daycares. 10 November is Diabetes Month in Canada. We are having a Diabetes Day on November 8 th at GHAC. Stay tuned for more information in our November newsletter. If you would like the diabetes team to host an event in your community during November call Elin at GHAC. (807) ext. 246 Breakfast Program at Robert Moore School The Robert Moore school breakfast Program has been a well established program for the last 14 years. Our role as Health Educators at the Gizhewaadiziwin Health Access Centre is to coordinate and help provide support with the students and the volunteers. The Program is designed so that every child in the classroom has access to a healthy snack in the morning upon arriving to school. We know from research that the impacts of hunger reach far beyond a single child. Hunger affects classroom learning (60% of which is done before lunch), behavioural issus such as bullying and social exclusion, as well as overall lhealth and wellbeing. One in five Canadian children are at risk of starting school on an empty stomach. The Health Access Centre also provides support to many of our surrounding schools.
