Dolloff, CTRS, M.Ed. & Francesca Olmas, Brooke Prout, & Cassandra Watts Learn some great ideas for simple adaptations to increase participation & independence in a variety of activities, from the treatment setting to diversional activities. Use your assessment skills to determine which assistive technology options are best suited for each individual and best ways to implement the devices into routine or diversional activities. Part 1 will provide an overview of EBP. Must attend Part 1&2 for CEU credit. #7 Standardized Assessment Tools: Resources and Simple Data Analysis Heather R. Porter, PhD, CTRS & Pei-Chun Hsieh, PhD, CTRS Understand benefits of standardized assessment tools (SATs) for RT care/practice, where to find free/low cost SATs, how to track data using Excel, and how to compute simple statistical analyses and present findings. #8 Beyond the Wire: RT in the Big House Ashley DuBose, MS, CTRS & Dana Moreschi, CTRS Have you ever wondered what it s like to work in a prison? Come and learn how recreation therapy can be implemented in a correctional setting by serving inmates with chronic mental illness. One study examining effects of cognitive functioning, mood, and engagement will be highlighted. 10:30 BREAK 10:45 #16 Community Wheelchair Skills and Re- Integration for Individuals with Spinal Cord Injuries Kristen Hartman, MS, CTRS & Tracy Bogdanoff, CTRS 10:45 12: 15 Recreation Therapists role in community re-integration education and community outing planning and implementation for individuals with spinal cord injury will be explored. Community manual wheelchair skills will also be discussed and demonstrated. #17 Healthcare Regulations: Current and Future Indications for Your Work Setting Donna Sears, MA, CTRS, ACC Bobbi Jo Pansier, CTRS, CCLS, & Dean Morales, MPA, CTRS, CPHQ This presentation will educate and inform members of the current and future regulations and legislative policies that will affect RT professionals working in adult/pediatric long term care and adult/pediatric rehabilitation centers. #15 Using Positive Psychology to Create Effective TR Interventions Fran Stavola Daly, Ed.D., CTRS, CPRP This session will explore how positive psychology can provide direction for the development of RT/TR interventions to produce meaningful change in clients. TR practice models and interventions that incorporate positive psychology will be examined. LUNCH IN GARDEN ROOM RECognition Award Presentations & Board Member Inductions #20 How to Implement Safe and Successful Aquatic-Based TR Program Kaylee McGuire, CTRS, CCLS This presentation aims to educate clinicians about how to design & implement, or improve adaptive aquatics programs for children and youth with disabilities. The session provides detailed strategies to provide a safe & successful program while address challenging behaviors, providing modifications for various physical disabilities, and teaching water safety. 2:30-2:45 COFFEE BREAK FOR BINGO WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT #21 Creativity and the Brain: Bridging Neuroscience and Recovery from TBI with Art Tori Kline, BA, MA This session will explore the ways creativity can support and promote rehabilitation, specifically from traumatic brain injury (TBI). Within the context of Therapeutic Recreation (TR), creativity and self-expression can be supported in order to promote generalized neural activation and rehabilitation. 4

5 2:45-4:15 #22 Cycling for Health: Assessing the Efficacy of a Bicycle- Based Intervention Erica Tibbetts, PhD Erica Tibbetts manages programs and oversees all impact evaluations at Gearing Up, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit that provides women in transition from abuse, addiction, and/or incarceration with the skills, equipment, and guidance to safely ride a bicycle for exercise, transportation, and personal growth. Erica will describe the program, how data is used to better serve her clients, and how TRs can develop something similar within their own programs. #23 Brain Wellness: Inviting Science into Purposeful Therapeutic Recreation Practice Melissa Mroz, CTRS, AAA-I, CPT Understanding the mind/body connection improves our ability as practitioners to identify outcome oriented, movement activities. Engaging individuals in these types of activities can increase their life satisfaction and enhance their overall quality of life. This session will explore how a TR can assess what types of activities to plan and implement with the individuals they serve, and how to evaluate the effectiveness of the activities implemented. #24 The Cultural Life Review Program: From a Therapeutic Recreation Perspective Sharon McKenzie, PhD, CTRS This session will review strategies for developing life review interventions that are ethnically and culturally sensitive for therapeutic recreation departments in nursing homes. We will review techniques used to develop the Cultural Life Review Program (CLRP 2004; 2006), a therapeutic recreation intervention, and discuss pre and post assessment of participants.
