3 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE The Binaytara Foundation (BTF) team continued its efforts towards bringing positive changes in our communities through health and education promotion this past year. Thanks to your continued involvement, support, and encouragement, BTF was not only able to continue its ongoing projects, but also able to expand them. Among he achievements for us this past year included the training of a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) team from Civil Service Hospital of Nepal at the University of Illinois Medical Center to establish a Bone Marrow Transplant Center in Nepal; providing cervical cancer screening to women in Nepal; organizing the Updates in Hematology and Oncology conference, and the continuation of Medical Research Grant project among others. I would like to take this opportunity to thank BTF board members, volunteers, donors, partners, and well wishers of BTF for your contributions. Without you, BTF would not have been able to achieve what it has achieved. BTF hopes to collaborate with more individuals and organizations to improve healthcare around the world. 4 UPDATES IN HEMATOLOGY AND ONCOLOGY A Multidisciplinary Conference Nov 15, 2014 Lewis-Clark State College, Williams Conference Center, 500 8th Avenue, Lewiston ID ttp://oncology2014.binayfoundation.org/ BTF organized a multidisciplinary conference Updates in Hematology and Oncology on November The conference had balanced educational sessions focusing on the needs of hematologists, oncologists, primary care physicians, oncology nurses, oncology pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the management of hematologic malignancies and solid tumors. Faculty discussed current and emerging concepts in the field of hematology and oncology. 5 BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT CENTER FOR NEPAL The Binaytara Foundation is helping physicians and nurses of Nepal to acquire knowledge and skills necessary to improve the care of patients requiring chemotherapy and stem cell transplant. Through the BMT Center for Nepal, the BTF will provide the capacity to staff the Center and offer continuing education to clinicians. A teams of two physicians and a registered nurse returned to the Civil Service Hospital after participating in the bone marrow transplant training at the University of Illinois Hospital (UIH) Chicago. During their training, the participants developed the skills associated with stem cell transplantation. The physicians and the nurse s training at the UIH lasted for ten weeks and eight weeks respectively. MEDICAL RESEARCH GRANTS The goal of the BTF medical research grants is to encourage medical students and young physicians to apply critical thinking and evidence based medicine in patient care. Botulinum Toxin in Cerebral Palsy: A preliminary Study in Nepal - by Ritesh Thapa. What are the main contributing factors towards stress and coping for mothers of children with Cerebral Palsy in Kathmandu? - by Priyansha Silwal. A study to find the incidence of childhood home injuries and its association with selected factors among the children below 5 years in Udupi by Renu Geethalayam.

6 CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING PROJECT The BTF Cervical Cancer Screening Project This past year, the BTF, in collaboration with the Cancer Care Nepal and technical support from National Hospital and Cancer Research Center Nepal, completed screening of 1000 women in different parts of Nepal for Cervical cancer. This project also included physical breast examination by trained healthcare professionals, appropriate treatment based on the pap smear findings, and cancer education and awareness programs. Join hands with BTF to save the lives of thousands of women by screening them for cervical cancers and other inflammatory lesions of the cervix.
