2 Controversies & Advances IN THE TREATMENT OF CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE PROGRAM DESCRIPTION We look forward to the eighteenth annual Controversies and Advances in the Treatment of Cardiovascular Disease symposium! The two-day scientific program will offer realistic views on many controversial issues in cardiovascular disease today. Session topics will include atherosclerosis and dyslipidemia, cardiac imaging, advanced heart failure, coronary artery disease, structural heart disease, clinical electrophysiology, sex differences in cardiovascular aging, aortic dissection and pulmonary embolism management, and heart health and extreme endurance sports. Sessions will include a combination of lectures, debates, and roundtable discussions. A faculty of internationally known leaders has been invited to share their knowledge and experiences with complex and controversial cases. TARGET AUDIENCE This symposium is designed for cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, cardiovascular and thoracic surgeons, perfusionists, nurses, technicians and those involved in the diagnosis, treatment and care of individuals with controversial and complex cases of cardiac disease. LEARNING OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to: : : Analyze the latest advancements and emerging treatments for atherosclerosis and dyslipidemia : : Examine updates in cardiac imaging and discuss the roles and limitations for various imaging modalities : : Discuss the potential for personalized medicine in heart failure : : Evaluate the latest trials and innovations in interventional cardiology and coronary artery disease : : Debate the current controversies in structural heart disease : : Evaluate the latest updates in clinical electrophysiology FACULTY DISCLOSURE : : Compare sex differences in cardiovascular aging, cognitive decline, and the effect on health policy : : Explain the latest data in the treatment of aortic disease and pulmonary embolism management : : Discuss the pros and cons of renal denervation for the management of resistant hypertension : : Evaluate the latest advances in the management of aortic dissection and pulmonary embolism : : Debate the potential risks and benefits of extreme endurance sports on heart health In accordance with the ACCME Standards for Commercial Support, program directors, planning committees, faculty and all others in control of the educational content of the CME activity must disclose all relevant financial relationships with any commercial interest that they or their spouse/partner may have had within the past 12 months. 3 The Eighteenth in the Series November 15 16, 2018 CME ACCREDITATION AND DESIGNATION Physicians: Promedica International is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Promedica International designates this live activity for a maximum of 16 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s). Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Nurses: Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider #8495 for 16 Contact Hours. Perfusionists: Category 1 CEUs for perfusionists will be determined by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion and updated online at Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist: CCI does not approve CEUs directly, however CCI will accept CEUs that have already been approved by accredited sponsors of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). RCIS attendees will claim the physician certificate option when completing the online evaluation and can use that certificate to claim CEUs from CCI. ABIM MOC ACCREDITATION Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 16 Medical Knowledge MOC points and Patient Safety MOC credits in the American Board of Internal Medicine s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit. COMMERCIAL SUPPORT This program is supported in part by educational grants and exhibits from industry, in accordance with the ACCME Standards for Commercial Support. CULTURAL AND LINGUISTIC COMPETENCY This activity is in compliance with California Assembly Bill 1195 which requires that all CME activities comprising a patient care element include curriculum addressing the topic of cultural and linguistic competency. The intent of this bill is to ensure that health care professionals are able to meet the cultural and linguistic concerns of a diverse patient population through effective and appropriate professional development. Cultural and linguistic competency was incorporated into the planning of this activity.
