6 Special Events Special Events City of Anniston Parks and Recreation Department also has oversight of the city s Special Events Committee which has the responsibility of coordinating City sponsored resources in support of major events. se events include the following: Noble Street Festival & Sunny King Criterium A Top 10 Event for the State of Alabama - as selected by the Alabama Department of Tourism & Travel in 2006, 2010, and again in 2012! WOODSTOCK 5K Anniston Runners Club sponsors its premier Annual 5K Woodstock and Kidstock 1 Mile. ( Kidstock 1 Mile is for kids 14 and younger.) This event is named after Woodstock the bird and is a great, fun, healthy community event attended by over 1,300 runners and walkers for its 2011 event. This annual event attracts more than 5,000 race fans to historic downtown Anniston. Though the Talladega Super Speedway is in our back yard, these fans come to see the bike race. Hundreds of pros and amateurs race bikes around the.6 mile closed course multiple times - racing inches apart at speeds reaching 40 mph. And you re just inches from the racers as they zoom by on the course. This is a family oriented event with attractions to delight all age groups. Join us in downtown Anniston as historic Noble Street becomes cyclists and pedestrians-only for a day at the Noble Street Festival. This FREE family festival features the pro bike races, restaurants providing great food and snacks all day at the Annual Red Diamond Restaurant Tour, music, art, a running race, and healthy activities for kids. Professional bikers from all over the United States and abroad travel to participate in this event. Please visit noblestreetfestival.com for more information. At the time the Anniston Runners Club was formed in 1980, the biggest local foot race in Anniston was the Midsummer Morn 5K held in conjunction with the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. When the Shakespeare Festival moved to Montgomery in 1986, ARC and the Anniston Star agreed the runner s club could adopt the race. Since the race was held on Woodstock Avenue, it was renamed the Woodstock 5K. Anniston Runners Club created a race destined to last for years - with a challenging course, great local support, and a fun atmosphere! 2012 event hosted the Road Runners Club of America National 5K Championship.
