1 Hello my name is Rick and I am a survivor of stage 4 colon cancer. My story is unique as it involves me, my sister and brother. My story starts in September of 2006 when my younger brother, Kenny, went to the doctor not feeling well. After a few tests he was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer that had metastasized to his liver. It was so advanced that two weeks later I watched him take his last breath. He was only 48 years old. His doctor advised my sister and me that we should be checked. My sister was diagnosed with colon cancer on the day our brother died. I was diagnosed just a few days later. Mine was diagnosed as stage 4 and had metastasized into my stomach. At the advice of Dr. Amin, I went to the Kirklin Clinic in Birmingham where I met Dr. Heslin and Dr. Posey. In my opinion, they are the best in their field. I had surgery where they removed a softball size tumor from my colon and stomach. I underwent extensive chemo therapy and then had a second surgery on my colon to remove a smaller tumor. Thanks to amazing research, dedicated doctors and, most importantly, the grace of God I have been blessed to continue my life. My advice to others is to be checked and have a colonoscopy, because by the time you have symptoms it could be too late. My sister Kathey also had successful surgery and we are cancer free WE ARE SURVIVORS!

5 Relay For Life Paint the Town Purple! April1-May 10, 2013 Starting On April 1st, help the American Cancer Society Paint the Town Purple in support of Relay For Life. Join us as we transform Calhoun County purple. You can show your support by ordering a purple bow and display at your home, local business, church, or place of work. The bows are a suggested donation of $5. Bows will be distributed at the March 28 th Team Captain meeting. Please let me know the week before on a total of bows pre-sold or needed!
