President s Message I am pleased to announce that our chapter has reached Platinum status again. Over the past year we have hosted nine lunches and an ACL course, as well as, co-hosted a fraud conference with the ACFE s. I want to thank everyone for attending these events. Your attendance at these events helps us achieve platinum status. I also want to thank the many volunteers that have helped over the year. Our events would not run as smoothly without your help. 2 Focus on Chapter Events Edmonton Chapter The IIA Edmonton Chapter has over 400 members representing major industry, government and public practice in Edmonton and northern Alberta. The Chapter organizes various courses, luncheons and socials that take place throughout the year. Our chapter luncheons are geared toward updating our members with latest developments in internal auditing and providing the opportunity for members to network with fellow colleagues. The monthly luncheons are scheduled for every 3rd Tuesday of the month at the Westin Hotel on Street, Edmonton, Alberta, T5J 0N7 from noon to 1:00 p.m. In 2016 our chapter is excited to offer the final luncheon of this Chaprter year: May 17, 2016 Please schedule this date into your calendars and plan to join us. Background: The Institute of Internal Auditors, Edmonton Chapter is celebrating its 50th anniversary in To commemorate this milestone, the Chapter is organizing a number of activities throughout The first of these events will be our May 17th luncheon/agm. We welcome 3 past-presidents and now retired internal auditors to our panel discussion to share their Lessons Learned on the Audit Trail. I have learned a number of important lessons in my career some early on, some much later, Richard Chambers (President and CEO of the IIA) has said. The paradox of what you pick up later in life is you have less time to apply those lessons. But if I can help just one internal auditor become better prepared for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in this profession, then my efforts will be well worth it. 9 Chapter Achievement Program For the 2015/2016 Chapter Year the Edmonton Chapter once again achieved Platinum status in the IIA s Chapter Achievement Program (CAP). To qualify for recognition in the IIA s CAP program, Chapters must earn specific minimum Chapter Achievement points in the categories of: Service to Members Service to the Profession Chapter Administration Once the chapter has met or exceeded the minimum CAP Requirements in the three categories (above), the chapter will have reached the BRONZE performance level. A chapter can advance to SILVER or GOLD levels by accumulating specified point levels defined by the IIA across the categories above. PLATINUM is a special level recognizing chapters that attain GOLD status for 10 of 11 consecutive years. A chapter will continue to be recognized as platinum level each year thereafter as long as it reaches the Gold CAP level every year. YOU support our Chapter Achievements! Please report on eligible activities. The Edmonton Chapter receives Chapter Achievement Program (CAP) points for a variety of activities including: applicable non-compensated speaking engagements, training sessions facilitated, advocacy efforts at Post Secondary institutions, articles submitted or published in the Internal Auditor magazine or other professional journals, writing of exam questions accepted by the IIA, or even volunteering by chapter members for things like the Junior Achievement Program. We are asking all members to us details of any activities that our members are carrying out which may be eligible for acknowledgement in our monthly Chapter Achievement reporting to the IIA North America.
