2 Comhaltas Rochester May/June 2016 Page 2 In 2012, this was a sell-out event. Don t miss this opportunity to hear superior fiddle music as well as be entertained by a very versatile performer. Kevin Burke has been called Ireland s most lyrical fiddler. At the forefront of traditional music for over 30 years, he is known for his highly individual style-- vibrant, expressive, relaxed, and, at times, humorous. He is well known to international audiences for his work with superlative Irish groups, from the Bothy Band to Patrick Street and Celtic Fiddle Festival. Kevin s family is from Sligo and his first musical influences were famous musicians of that region, such as Michael Coleman and Paddy Killoran. Kevin's playing reflects the intricately ornamental Sligo style. Burke's extensive credits include recording and touring with both Arlo Guthrie and Christy Moore in the 1970s, and with former Bothy Band colleague Micheal O Domhnaill in the 1980s. He was a member of Tim O Brien s American-Celtic crossover band The Crossing, and in recent years has collaborated with Oregon guitarist Cal Scott. In 2002 Burke was awarded the NEA s National Heritage Fellowship, this country's highest honor in the traditional arts. He has resided in Portland, Oregon since the late 1970s, and in 2010 was inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame. For more photos, CDs; listen to Kevin: "Kevin Burke is one of the greatest Irish fiddlers of the past half-century." The Washington Post CCE members: Bring your membership card for $5 discount on admission. Whether solo or accompanied, on record or in concert, Kevin Burke is an immensely engaging performer. "The great Irish fiddler Kevin Burke...plays the fiddle so smoothly, with such buoyancy, and with such relaxed showmanship, that even a large concert hall becomes intimate." - The New Yorker Magazine
