1 March 2018 Redstone Arsenal Military & Civilians Club Newsletter From the President In this Issue Hello ladies, The Galaxy Gala "A Night Under the Stars" was truly out of this world! I am so proud of our Fundraiser chair Kerrie Sheppard and her fantastic committee! They worked very hard to make the evening special. The US Space & Rocket Center was beautifully decorated and the Twickenham Jazz & Swing band was outstanding (we received many compliments on the music). It was a spectacular evening! Thank you to all who donated items and baskets, attended and made financial contributions. I m thrilled to announce we raised over $21,000. The proceeds were above and beyond our expectations. Now, we get to award money to some amazing scholars and community organizations. Well done members! Our next luncheon is fast approaching on March 13 th we are celebrating Erin Go Bragh which translates to Ireland forever! Everyone is Irish in March. We will have music, an Irish menu and great fun. Please make your reservations by noon on March 9 th to our reservation gals. Please see the Community Outreach page of the newsletter for a list of items we are collecting for the New Hope Children s Clinic. They are a non-profit, schoolbased health clinic created to provide medical care for children in Madison County and surrounding communities. Their motto is to break barriers, change lives and bring hope to children through local, low cost healthcare. They are in desperate need of some over the counter medications along with basic office supplies. Everyone who brings a donation will receive an extra door prize opportunity. 4 Outreach This month we are collecting supplies for the New Hope Children s Clinic! New Hope Children s Clinic is a non-profit, school-based health clinic created to provide access to comprehensive medical care for children in Madison County and surrounding communities. The New Hope Children s Clinic will break barriers, change lives and give hope to children through local, low-cost healthcare. Also, we provide medical and dental care along with mental health counseling for more than 900 patients. Eighty percent of our patients are on Medicaid or AllKids insurance, meaning they live at or below the poverty line. Items to collect include: Adult and Children s Motrin (generic is fine) Adult and Children s Sudafed (generic is fine) Neosporin (generic is fine) Hydrocortisone (generic is fine) Benadryl (generic is fine) Children s band aids with fun characters and colors 100% fruit juice boxes Tissues Paper towels

5 Fundraising Galaxy Gala! What a STELLAR night we had at the Space and Rocket Center for the Galaxy Gala! Thanks to all of you who showed up and showed your support for our annual major fundraiser. We had an impressive turn out of people, donations, prizes and sponsors. The food was delicious, the music was amazing and the Saturn V never looked better under the stunning lighting donated by Rocket Event Design. We will continue to thank are generous sponsors throughout the Club year. Their sponsorship donations alone allowed us to raise $10,500. Thanks to our Milky Way sponsor: S3, our Jupiter sponsors: PZI, Lockheed Martin, and BOH FPU Systems, our Neptune sponsors: The Cottages, Boeing, L3 Technologies, and Crestwood Medical Center, and our Mercury Sponsors: Rocket City Counselors, and the Intersect Group. In addition to our incredible sponsors, we had more than 70 donors who contributed baskets, gift cards, items, and services to be used in our Live & Silent Auctions. Thank you to the incredible fundraising team who spent countless hours working hard to put the Galaxy Gala together. 7 Hiking Club Monday, March 12 th 9:45 a.m. The Botanical Gardens We will meet at 9:45 and will hike a 2 1/2 easy trail though the gardens. Lunch will follow at the cafe for those who have some extra time.
