2 Please join us in the inaugural year of the Fight for Hope fundraiser that will be held on Saturday, May 27th, 2017 at the Rotary Spirit Center in Westlock, Alberta. Why the Fight for Hope? This name and fundraiser was chosen because the children that are being helped by our two charities of choice are each battling critical illnesses and they are in the fight of their lives. We have chosen Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern Alberta (RMHCNA) and Kids with Cancer Society (KWCS) to be the recipients of the funds raised by this event. These charities were two of the pioneering networks that enabled our family and child to have hope, by knowing that hundreds of people are willing to donate and stand behind us lets us know that we do not have to walk this journey alone. Having an army behind us, and in front of us, fighting this battle give us hope and courage to continue to persevere. Our child, his two sisters, and our marriage has been strengthened and united by the loving support of these charities and we know there will be families after us that will continue to need these charities. We could never fully repay RMHCNA and KWCS for what they have done saving our son and family. All we can do is unite with others to Fight for Hope. With the help of your sponsorship, we can make this inaugural event successful and be able to donate to two worthy charities that continue to give hope to families. Your support will have, a significant impact in helping critically ill children and their families weather the crises in their lives. Scotty Cartwright Robyn Cartwright ABOUT THE CARTWRIGHTS After a fire claimed their home in Westlock, the Cartwright family started building a new life in Debolt, Alberta. But life threw the family another challenge, one that quickly changed their lives in an instant. Scott and Robyn s son Jordan was not feeling like himself. He was in pain and feeling sick, but doctors had no idea why. After many meet and greets with different doctors in Grande Prairie, Jordan started to cough up blood. Thinking he had anemia, doctors ordered more blood work. That small test brought an answer that the family had not even imagined: Jordan had leukemia. Jordan was medevaced to Edmonton and checked into the Stollery Children s Hospital. The care he received at the Stollery was incredible, and they found even more support through Kids with Cancer, which assisted in covering food, hotel, parking, and even had support groups for their whole family. Even with all the support the Cartwrights received, the cost of living in a new city was adding up. But when they moved into Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern Alberta they found out how ready the Edmonton community was to support their family

3 ABOUT THE CHARITIES RONALD McDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES NORTHERN ALBERTA RMHCNA is a home away from home for families with seriously ill or injured children seeking medical treatment in an Edmonton facility. RMHCNA is a comforting place to stay during treatment, but we are more than just a roof over our families heads. We provide programs and services to help families resume normalcy. We are an extension of care for five Edmonton medical facilities: Stollery Children s Hospital, Royal Alexandra Hospital, Misericordia Community Hospital, Grey Nuns Community Hospital and the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital KIDS WITH CANCER SOCIETY The Society provides 50 vital programs and services not offered elsewhere to children with cancer and their families who reside in Northern Alberta and the North West Territories. The Kids with Cancer Society operates out of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The Kids with Cancer Society (KWCS) begins its journey with families at diagnosis with a trained parent who delivers a bag full of necessities for the hospital stay. Following initial contact, KWCS addresses other critical areas faced by our children and their families that are often missed such as the emotional, social, and physical issues brought on by treatment. KWCS also consider the whole family as one unit stronger when together and strive to strengthen that unit in all areas including support, research, advocacy, and long-term survivor issues. As such, families often describe KWCS as a lifeline during their journey with cancer.
