1 The Local Cancer Community Update of Submitted by: Tim E. Renzelmann December 19, 2014 TLC s Year End Gathering of The Local Cancer Community! Tuesday, December 16 th It was a special TLC Survivorship Session that started with great food specially prepared by the culinary experts of the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice (shrimp, fruit kabobs, veggies, cheese & sausage and holiday cookies)! We started the evening with a casual Meet & Greet & Eat then took a trip down memory lane that included some history of the TLC (Together we Live with Cancer!) Supportive Community and the Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund. Then we took a look back at the many events and activities of 2014 and took a look ahead at 2015! Despite the many challenges of a cancer diagnosis, it appears that the one blessing that almost always rises above the many cancer-related burdens is the people we meet, the relationships we develop and the friendships that we create!!! I suspect I speak for many, if not all that attended, when I say we enjoyed the food and hopefully the information was worthwhile but it was the company we shared that made this night so very special!!! Consider joining us in 2015 for any of our TLC and/or SCCCF events and activities! Despite talking for about an hour and a half I forgot to mention these next two items: SCCCF Challenge of the Month Each month I will propose a challenge to all SCCCF Survive, Thrive & Be Fit Survivor/Athletes. Challenges will vary from month to month some may be achieved on your own others we will work on as a group. To find out what the Challenge of the Month is for January, 2015 simply go to and click on the Get Active tab! SCCCF Survive, Thrive & Be Fit Long Sleeve T-shirts Available! The company that supplies our Active Survivors of Sheboygan team shirts ran a Flash Sale on longsleeve T-shirts recently and I ordered a limited supply that will be available for $15 (proceeds will, of course, benefit SCCCF). At this time they will ONLY be available to participants at SCCCF Survive, Thrive & Be Fit events & activities. If you plan on attending any of January s Survive, Thrive & Be Fit and are interested in purchasing a shirt, please contact me in advance with your shirt size. Shirts are available in Ash (below) & White in sizes S, M, L & XL. SCCCF Unveils New Logo! In March of 2000 I began working for Dr. Matthews and had the opportunity to help turn his idea of a local fund to help area cancer patients with the financial challenges of a cancer diagnosis into a reality. Although we didn t offer our first gesture until 2002, I consider 2015 to be SCCCF s fifteen year anniversary will most likely also be the year we surpass the $1,000,000 mark in approved gestures!!! So I couldn t think of a better time to

2 introduce a new logo representing The Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund: This new logo maintains the image of the lighthouse that has represented SCCCF since it s beginning (see previous logos below) but focuses on the beam of light that offers a beacon of hope to area cancer patients and survivors! If you are someone you know has been touched by cancer and is in need of some financial assistance or other support check us out! Or, if you or someone you know has experienced cancer and is looking at a way to give back or to honor or remember the experience or a loved one check us out! Visit our website: and sign up for The Local Cancer Community Update that lists events, activities and resources in the local cancer community or contact Tim at ! Sheboygan Falls Chamber Main Street Ladies Night Out Presents Donation to SCCCF! Sheboygan Falls Chamber Main Street (CMS) donated $1,000 from the Ladies Nite Out event that took place in October, The check presentation took place at Rick s House of Flowers, sponsor of the Ladies Night Out tote bag. To date, the event has donated $5,500 to the Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund. Those present in the picture include: Rick Henschel of Rick s House of Flowers, Chris Tempas of the CMS Board of Directors, Melissa Geisthardt of Depke Shoe Store and CMS Board of Directors, Tim Renzelmann of the Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund, Stefanie Trakel of St. Paul Lutheran Church and CMS Board of Directors, Kim Strysick and Shirl Breunig of CMS. Entourage Salon & Spa Provide Continued Support of SCCCF! I received the following note from Entourage Salon and Spa al ong with ANOTHER generous donation: Dear Tim, Enclosed is a donation for funds raised at our salon from our annual holiday open house. The money was raised through salon promotions and client contributions. James & Janelle Goking Owners Entoruage Salon and Spa A sincere THANK YOU to the owners and staff of Entourage Salon and Spa as well as their many kind and compassionate clients and customers! January, 2015 Calendar of Events! Check the SCCCF website ( for events and activities in the local cancer community in January of 2015!!! ATTENTION Active Survivors of Sheboygan! It s not good to wait for a crisis to make these decisions. The most common problems we see, next to not having an Advanced Directive at all, are that the document is either incomplete or invalid. It s important to review your plan at least annually and keep it up to date. FREE! Beverage & Snack Provided! RSVP Always Appreciated!
