Pot luck 2018 UPCOMING EVENTS September Sunday, September 23 rd, Annual Lodge Picnic, Location: Blackberry Farm in Cupertino beginning at 10am, with lunch to be served at 1pm. October CHARITY EVENT Our annual CORA fundraising dinner will be held on Saturday, October 13 th at the American Legion Hall in Pacifica beginning at 5:30pm with no-host cocktails. CORA provides the only domestic violence emergency shelter and transistional housing in San Mateo County. Hosted by Tammy and Tom Manini, and Lee Ann Reger. Refer to the lodge s website for the sign-up sheet. November CHARITY EVENT Blood Drive/Veteran s Fundraiser for the Mighty Oaks Program. This is a faith based Veteran service organization that teaches combat veterans struggling with post traumatic stress how to get beyond combat stress and live their lives in the manner God intended. To be held on Saturday, November 3 rd at the American Legion Hall, Pacifica. Please refer to the lodge s website for the sign-up sheet. Chairperson: George Guerra and Dennis Milton. Note: to donate blood, it has been suggested to contact the Blood Centers of the Pacific. December Holiday Brunch, 12/9, SSF Elks Lodge. More information to follow in November/December newsletter. 3 San Francisco Giants game, July 7 th. We had a full crew, all 80 available tickets were sold out. John and Carol Fraher, provided a hot dog lunch with all the trimmings. Folks headed over to the stadium to get that day s free give-away, a Crabby scarf. The game was an exciting match, but alas, the Giants fell to the Cardinals 3-2. As always, we had a great day with our fellow Oddfellows! Thank you to our hosts for a fine day at AT&T park. On Saturday, July 14 th fifteen lodge members volunteered at Safe Harbor in South San Francisco. Safe Harbor is a homeless shelter based in South San Francisco, overseen by the Samaritan House in San Mateo. Our lodge has been serving meals on Monday evenings there for several years. There was a full barbequed hamburger dinner served, which was very well received by the clients. Keith Fitzpatrick was the host, assisted by several other lodge members to make this a great evening. This is what Odd Fellows is all about, helping our fellow man. On a recent Saturday in August, a group of lodge members headed out on the annual Mystery Trip. First pickup was in Foster City, and the East Bay group was picked up in Hayward. As we made our way to our fist location, the snacks were flowing freely throughout the bus. We also enjoyed raffle prize drawings. Very appropriate gifts, parasols and hats, as the day was a hot one!! Keith, Vice Grand, had two large coolers filled with water and all kinds of refreshing drinks. Our first stop was the delightful town of Columbia, located in the gold country. In 1850 gold was found here. By month s end several thousand prospectors were living here in shanty towns. By 1852, the shanty towns had been replaced by permanent structures, more than 150 shops, saloons and other enterprises. By 1860, when the finding of gold was gone, the town of Columbia began to decline, though it still survived. In 1945 the Legislature Passed a bill to acquire the land and buildings, which then became Columbia Historic State Park, as it is known today. Folks were able to walk through the town, enjoy libations at the saloons, visit stores and make purchases, and Eric Graham even took a ride on the stagecoach. We then headed out to our 2 nd destination, Ironstone Winery in Murphys. Keith had arranged a delightful lunch for us in their community room. While enjoying our repast a gentlemen gave us a talk about the different wines they have there, and we were able to sample 5 different ones. We then headed out on our return trip home. Thanks to Keith, our host!

4 TREATS RESPONSIBILITY Each meeting we bring wonderful treats to our lodge. Most of us just do it once a year, so it may be hard to remember what is required. Following is a checklist to help when you are bringing treats: NOTE: Treats budget has been increased to $200 which includes appetizers, main dish, and something for dessert 1) Sign up with Keith Fitzpatrick builderfitz@yahoo.com (or at a lodge meeting to arrange to bring treats) 2) The treats limit is $200, excluding drinks and paper products. They are already at the Lodge. 3) Arrive at the hall by 7:00pm 4) You will probably miss the meeting the night you have treats. If you need to report on something, get a helper. ATTENDANCE AND RAFFLE WINNERS: As an incentive to those who attend meetings, there is a name drawn at each meeting, and the winner receives a $$ prize. We invite everyone to come and join us at our lodge meetings. Fellowship starts at 7:00, appetizers and drinks, followed by a 60 minute lodge meeting. Afterwards we enjoy dinner with one another, provided by a lodge member. Please mark your calendars and plan on attending a meeting. It s a good way to know what s going on as well as meeting members who you may not have had the opportunity to meet yet. NEW MEMBER: At the 8/7 meeting and having met all the membership requirements Carol and Dennis Milton sponsored new member, Tommy Silva. By vote of acclimation, Tommy was welcomed as a new member.
