2 2 President s Corner August 2014 Greetings my Fellow NCoCC Members, I can t believe we are almost all the way through July; time really has flown by this summer. I know a lot of you have been vacationing or have vacations planned; it s that time of year. Donna and I just returned from a two week camping trip in our 5 th wheel travel trailer. We went to a couple of Guide Dogs for the Blind Fun Days. One at their main campus in San Rafael and the other at their satellite campus in Boring, Oregon. We also had an opportunity to spend a few days camping with the blind person, Vicki, who has Latrice. I m sure many of you remember this sweet little Golden Retriever puppy we raised not so long ago. Vicki and her husband, Terry, also love to travel in their 5 th wheel. We also had our youngest daughter, Korrin, and our two grandsons, Jude (age 6) and Maxwell (age 1 3/4), accompany us on this vacation. We had a blast! Then we went to Reno and camped for a few days with our daughter, Tasha, her husband, Misha, and our two grandsons, Sage (age 4) and Trey (age 1 1/2). Over all it was an mazing time! Any time you get to spend with family is so precious and I really enjoy spoiling my grandsons. Late Breaking News we will NOT be combining our Recognition Dinner this year with our Past President s Picnic! The Past President s Picnic will still be on August 16 th at my home in Ramona. We will have lots of great eats and drinks, not to mention swimming or just hanging out in the Jacuzzi. You don t have to bring anything but your towel and your appetite! The Recognition Dinner, back by popular demand, will be on September 7 th starting at 4:00 p.m. at the Stone Ridge Country Club in Poway. A big thanks to Candy Daher for taking on the lead to organize this event. We will have more details at our next membership meeting. As I write this, we are planning a run to the COCSD s Main Street America Car Show at Seaport Village. COCSD has challenged us to bring more cars to their show than they brought to Plastic! My unofficial count for them, including the two cars Craig had in his vendor booth, is 10; we need to beat that! Also, I have suggested to Craig that we award a symbolic trophy to the winning club each year. I think a significant part (a hubcap, steering wheel, etc.) something recognizable from a vintage Corvette. If anyone has any ideas let me know. As usual, I want to remind everyone to keep checking the calendar on our website ( so you don t miss out on any of our upcoming activities. Terry Thompson has jumped into his new job with both feet and has lots of great activities planned! I will sign off for now and, as always, wish everyone safe travels in your Corvette. I also want to remind you to support: 1) our Club charity the USO San Diego, 2) all of our military men, women and veterans, and 3) our fantastic National Corvette Museum. Sam

Bring your bathing suit, sunscreen, and chairs. If you would like to caravan to their home, Dave Regenhardt will be leading everyone up the hill from North County Fair shopping mall. Meet at 1:30 p.m. in the parking lot next to BJ s Restaurant/Brewhouse. We will leave the mall at 1:45. Monthly Club Event
6 6 Main Street America July 27 What wild weather we had at the Main Street America Car Show! It started off cloudy. Mid morning we watched rainstorms in the distance. Then the sky opened up and it poured on all of the cars. This was a challenge for those of us with our tops down! Especially to Dave who left the top to his corvette in the garage at home. It never rains in July! But the sun came out and quickly dried up all the rain At least 11 North County Corvette cars were in attendance. Sharon Wood

8 8 Sin City A Dame to Kill For I got an , on July 13 th, from Russell Scott at Cool Car Casting in Austin, Texas, requesting a 1960 Corvette for a display at the 2014 Comic-Con for four days. Since I hardly ever do anything with my Corvette, I put the on the back burner as usual. I didn t realize that the word got out to our club until I got about six s from various club members that asked the question Ed, don t you have a 60 Corvette? Okay, so I took another look at the and noticed the $1000 offered to use the car in the display. Wow! Okay, I m on board! So I gave Russell a call and said I am interested. He was so relieved to finally get somebody with a 60 Vette that he upped the offer to $2000. Yep, you got it, big smile on my face. Both Russell and I were under the impression that the display was to be inside the convention center, but Swisher Productions, the folks putting on the display, said it was to be outside by the Petco Park in the Lexus parking lot. Would have been cool to be indoors, but outside was fine. There were six cars on display; a 40 and a 59 Cadillac, a 54 Buick, and a 55 chevy police car, and an 86 Dodge that were both used in the first movie. The cars were well roped off, with plenty of security 24/7. Russell kept a watchful eye as well. One of the things I really liked about Russell s professionalism is that if I wasn t there he would move my car if needed, but would call me to come down and personally move the car myself if I so desired. I ve never attended a Comic-Con gathering before, but it was very interesting to say the least. A lot of folks with crazy costumes that weren t embarrassed to show-off in public. On the third day the actors in the upcoming Sin City II movie were at the display to autographs posters. I saw Jessica Alba, Josh Brolin and Rosario Dawson. It was total entertainment to just sit and people watch. If you have never been to Comic- Con, it s well worth an afternoon to see all the costumes.
