4 A Word From The Pres It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon as we crossed over into Minnesota. What a great day for a ride & dine. The Mosleys lead us on a sensational tour of the Root River and finally up the hill to Preston, MN, where we had the most spectacular view from the restaurant. Now, you think the highlight of the restaurant would be the food or the beverages, but no, the real highlight was when Joan went into the MEN S bathroom. I know that she is the activity chair, but that s going a little far. Thanks for the laugh, Joan. Of the many activities coming up, the next is our first parade of the season in Spring Grove, MN, on May 15. We can meet at our place at 11:00 am. Please RSVP. Thanks to all of you and your family members that helped at the autocross. And thanks to Del and Joan for sharing their home for the member meeting after the autocross. See you soon. Jeff APRIL 2004 MONTHLY MEETING General Meeting: Sunday, April 25, 2004 at Del and Joan Schreck home at 5:00 p.m.. Meeting called to order by president, Jeff Schroeder. Thirteen members present and one guest. Meeting followed the RCC Autocross. Secretary s minutes moved to be approved by Ruth Schroeder, seconded by Pat Foster. Treasurer, Pat Smith, gave Treasurer s Report. Governor s Report: Tom Stibbe reported on a successful autocross. He will begin preparation for the Sunday, August 22, event with five sanctions. It will be named the River Valley Cup. See Governor s Report. Web Masters Report: John Gesslein reviewed new memberships and advertisements.

5 Activities Report: Joan Schreck went through list of upcoming events. See Activities Calendar. Claude and Judy Mosley led seven cars on the April Ride N Dine through Rushford, Lanesboro and dinner at the Branding Iron in Preston. New Business: Discussion about our changing monthly meeting places and the effect on new members. It was decided to make it well publicized on the website where the meeting will be held. THANKS TO ALL THE WORKERS AT THE APRIL 25 AUTOCROSS Governor s Report - May Tom Stibbe Earlier this spring, my wife and I went to a traveling stage production at the Viterbo College Fine Arts Theatre. While I have a somewhat limited interest in the fine arts, all good husbands accommodate their wives every once in a while for these kinds of things. The traveling production members were quite obviously well trained in singing, acting, dancing, and playing musical instruments. What I did not know at the time, as how this production would relate to our April 25th Auto-Cross. Our Auto-Cross ran quite well, taking into account the rainy conditions experienced during the morning. Eventually the sun came out, the track dried off, and we had a happy ending to our event. Back at the Fine Arts Center, the story line of the play mirrored our day at the track. The play began in confusion, people began sorting out their roles, some unfortunate event happened (ours was a recalcitrant timing printer), the actors worked thru their dilema in adverse weather, and in the end, the sun came out and the love story blossomed. The play we saw was an old standard, memorialized in a movie during the early 1950 s, called Singing in the Rain. How they ever figured out a way to have a rainstorm on

6 stage during a dance number, and not soak the front row of spectators, I will never know. How we found our way thru a wet and cold Auto-Cross, I will never know. Results of the April 25th Auto-Cross have been approved by the NCCC Regional Competition Director and should be posted along with this newsletter. Many thanks are due to our members that worked behind the scenes of the Auto-Cross. I am very proud of the effort of our membership to work without complaint during cold and rainy conditions. Frustrated? I entered my dog in a field trial last weekend. 49 entries. I know my dog is fairly good at this and that I am not so good at handling the dog thru a field trial. No such thing as Novice class here. I survived thru the first round, and the field was reduced to 30 entries. The second round was more of the same, and the field was reduced to 9 entries for the third and final round. I felt fortunate to be in that final group. During the final round, 2 entries failed, leaving 7 which finished the trial. I was still in! At the awards table, I was impressed with the ribbons and carved pheasant roosters that were to be presented. If your not familiar with such events, there are only 4 placements (awards) given at a field trial. During the awards presentation, my name was not called. Very frustrating, but we will keep trying. Consolation? Plenty. Spending 2 days out of doors in fine weather, great friends, and best of all, having a dog that didn t fail me. Also, please welcome the return of Fred Benning into our club. Fred is from Winona, and now drives a 98 black coupe and has a 75 grey coupe for reserve. We are looking forward to seeing Fred at some of our meetings and events. I heard Fred would like to find out if we are interested in the Winona Steam Boat Days Parade, held over the 4th of July weekend. Maybe Fred can get us a ride on a buffalo. Spring Auto-Cross Results
