3 2017 Membership Matters by Mary Johnson As I write this membership article, I can t believe that two years have flown by in this Regional and International Biennium! It seems like the other day when I received a call from Ruth Ann Griggs, to consider joining the International Membership Committee as your NC Region Membership Consultant. The IMC have been an incredible group of women to work with, under the very capable leadership of our I VP for Membership, Judy Ganzert. I have learned so much about membership and our organization from the time spent with these talented ladies. I encourage all members to consider joining S/P/N, Regional or International Committees and sharing your talents. You will come away from the experience with new learnings, a deeper appreciation for our wonderful organization and having made lifelong friendships. Over the past two years your IMC has worked diligently on your behalf to: *Review thoroughly the Membership Development Manual (MDM) *Create the Distinguished Program Award (DPA) *Streamline the Pearls of Achievement Award through a simple checklist *Simplify the calculations for the Regional and S/P/N International Net Growth Award *Revise the Chapter Needs Assessment Form (CNA) Along with supporting Membership Development in the NC Region, I have enjoyed writing the monthly Membership Matters articles for Jane s Newsletters. My goal was to share membership information and tips with my NC sisters. I hope that they have been of interest and use to you. As my parting recommendation, I encourage you to Make Your Membership Matter! All leaders at the S/P/N and Chapter levels must put an emphasis and focus on TRAINING! The more we know and understand about Membership the better we will do! The newly revised MDM has everything that you need including role clarifications and timelines to assist your members in every area of membership. You can find it on the website. Check out the Chapters entitled: Membership Development, Where to Begin, Recruitment, Retention, New Chapter Development, Membership Development Awards, Good Ideas for Recruitment and Retention, Other types of Chapter Organization, Membership Information Contained in the International Bylaws, Membership Development Resources Membership Forms/Reports/Tools and Resources/Sample Letters!!! I hope to see many of you at the International Convention in New Orleans this July. The Membership Seminar for our NC S/P/N leaders is all planned and consists of Storefronts/Roundtable discussions on topics that are important to you. The ideas came mainly from our NC CNAs and conversations that I have had with members over my two years as your consultant. The topics are as follows: Motivating Members into Action; Using IT and the International Website to Increase Membership Knowledge; What s New in Membership Since the NC Conference; Following Up on Your S/P Plans; Specific Strategies for Attracting Younger Members while Engaging Older Members; Learning from Successful Chapters. Our goal is for all NC S/P leaders to share this information at the Chapter level, when they return home. Our Membership for Success model puts our Chapter Membership Teams, including Chapter members, at the top of the chart, as our members truly are the heart of our organization! It has been my great pleasure to have served as your NC Membership Consultant over the past two years along with our inspiring leader and role model, Jane Thompson.
